SHEFFIELD DOC/FEST YOUTH JURY– CALL FOR ENTRIES

Interested in documentary making and watching? Do you have an opinion about film and its place in the world? IF YES, SHEFFIELD DOC/FEST WANTS TO HEAR FROM YOU!

Sheffield Doc/Fest is looking for new voices for the world of documentary and you could be one of them. Five talented 16-21 year olds from around the UK will be chosen to make up this year’s Sheffield Doc/Fest Youth Jury.

Heather Croall, Director of Sheffield Doc/Fest, says:

"We are looking for people with the confidence to stand up and make themselves heard, and who aren't afraid to shout about what they think. And we want those people to make up the five-strong Sheffield Doc/Fest Youth Jury 2012.."'

The successful applicants will form the judging panel that award one documentary the Sheffield Youth Jury Award at Sheffield Doc/Fest in June, 2012. Prior to the Festival, the Youth Jurors will also participate in an exclusive Hothouse project in March. This will include viewing short-listed films, speaking to industry experts and learning more about what makes a good documentary. Past speakers include Michael Palin, Commissioning Editors and filmmakers like Andrew Lang.

Now in its sixth year, the Doc/Fest Youth Jury can be an accelerator into the industry, an insight into the world of the documentary industry as well as a fantastic and unique festival experience.

Heather Croall says:

"The youth jury award has become one of the most coveted awards at the festival. Filmmakers just love to hear that a jury of young people selected their film as the winner! Previous Sheffield youth jury members have gone on from this amazing "industry-access" opportunity to get their own documentaries commissioned after the festival or secure jobs in various broadcasters around the country. Being part of this initiative is an experience that has lasting impact for the young jury members"

Alex Keegan a Youth Juror from 2011:

“Being on the Youth jury at Doc/Fest was genuinely one of the most exciting and memorable moments of my life. Judging which film best represented the perspectives of the youth was a huge honour... The experience has acted as a springboard for my own pursuits since, which have focused specifically on music and thinking of innovative ways to incorporate music and film; putting the knowledge I gained at Doc/Fest into action.

The closing date for applications is noon on Friday 24th February 2012.

Successful applicants will be invited to an interview on Thursday 1st March 2012. The Hothouse will take place in Sheffield March 26th to 28th 2012.

Sheffield Doc/Fest 2011 will take place from 13th - 17th June 2012.

We look forward to hearing from you!
