Wine of the Weekend

Strewn Rogue’s Lot Cabernet Sauvignon /Cabernet Franc

Winemakers will often aim to draw out certain flavours or textures when making a wine, highlighting a certain aspect of the terroir or the grape’s natural properties. When the team at Strewn set out to make Rogue’s Lot, it wanted a wine that was ‘social’– a quaffable wine that would match with people enjoying each other’s company – with all the required distancing of course. This easy-drinking blend of Cabernets has been charming Ontarians ever since.

Tasting Notes: Rogue’s Lot is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, bursting with black and red berry fruit, supple tannins, lively acidity, soft floral notes, and subtle oak spices.

Enjoy With: Grilled meats and sausages, pizza, stuffed peppers or semi-hard cheeses, and good company. It’s a versatile wine.

Style: A dry, medium-bodied, fruity red wine.

Terroir/Region: Strewn Rogue’s Lot is grown and made in the Niagara Peninsula region of Ontario. The Cabernet Franc vineyards tend to ripen before the Cabernet Sauvignon, but both grapes are some of the last to be harvested each year. This ensures soft tannins and full fruit flavours.

Producer: Strewn has been a long-time homegrown favourite. It offers a wide range of wines and levels of sophistication with classics like Rogue’s Lot available in the LCBO and lots of treasures, including terroir-driven selections and back vintages from select stellar years, available from the winery.

Availability: Strewn Rogue’s Lot Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc is available in the Ontario VQA section of your local LCBO. It also happens to be $1.00 off until October 10, so now is a great time to stock up!
