One of our favourites is back! Ontario has gone crazy for rosé year after year, and for good reason! It’s refreshing in the heat, it comes in a variety of styles, it pairs with a huge variety of foods, and it’s all pink! Knockout rosé is made all over the world, including Ontario, but the 2018 Domaine des Carteresses is made in Tavel, where they ONLY make rosé. They are living the “Rosé all Day” life, La Vie en Rosé. To join in, we just need to chill, pop and pour.
Tasting Notes: A blend of Grenache, Mourvèdre, Clairette, Picpoul and Syrah, Domaine des Carteresses shows bright red cherry and strawberry fruit, mineral notes, touches of citrus, a richer palate than other rosé wines, and a spicy finish.
Enjoy With: Lighter grilled meats like chicken and pork as well as seafood, summer salads and spiced dishes like tajine, paella or Thai cuisine. Oh, it’s also great with almost anything on your brunch menu!
Style: A dry, medium-bodied refreshing rosé wine.
Terroir/Region: In Tavel, France they only make rosé and over the years they have become pretty good at it. It’s illegal to just pour a little red into a lot of white wine and call it rosé, so winemakers in Tavel have figured out exactly how long to soak the red grape skins (where the wine’s colour comes from) in the pressed juice to get the desired colour. In Tavel, it’s called “partridge eye”, or ruby-pink everywhere else.
Producer: Domaine des Carteresses is made by the Cave de Tavel co-operative, which consists of 140 growers who pool their efforts each year. The collective produces over half of all Tavel wines with each producer involved in the day-to-day work of the winery, as well as their own plots of land, keeping each member in touch with colleagues as well as the finished wines.
Availability: Domaine des Carteresses Tavel Rosé 2018 will be released for online ordering and into the Vintages section of your local LCBO on July 6, but some stores may have it on shelf already. Stock up to stay in a pink paradise all summer!
