Do you wonder why wine tastes so much better while you’re travelling? Ever settle down at a little café to enjoy some local wine and food and wish you could do the same at home? Well, this weekend you can transport you and your friends to Campania’s Amalfi Coast by sharing a bottle of this charming Falanghina (Fahl-ahn-Gheen-ah) together. Tasting Notes: Lovely pale yellow in colour, this aromatic white has a pretty bouquet redolent of flowers, melon and almonds. Flavours of melon and citrus are well-balanced on an elegant and crisp palate with hints of almond and minerals in the background. This flavourful white finishes on a refreshing lemon note that is long and clean. This is a great find.
Enjoy With: Seafood and shellfish dishes with lemon and garlic in them, soft cheeses or chopped salad. It’s also a great apéritif.
Style: Aromatic and flavourful dry white wine.
Terroir/Region: The Campania region has a long history of white wine production dating back to Greco-Roman times. Vineyards are planted at high altitudes where warm days and cool nights build grapes with excellent flavour and aromatic intensity. Soil, rich in volcanic minerals, gives complexity to Falanghina and imbues it with the hallmark flinty nose and palate.
Producer: Orion Wines was founded by two friends, Alessandro Michelon, one of Italy’s most promising winemakers, and Luca Pomaro, a veteran of the international wine scene. Their aim is to make affordable, innovative and interesting wines for worldwide export. They have developed over a dozen different brands which highlight regional wines from all over Italy.
Availability: Rocca del Dragone Falanghina 2015 IGP Campania will be available through Vintages officially on Saturday, but check stores now as some locations will release the wine early.
