Circle of Security - Informed 4 Day Training with Dr. Bob Marvin
The Master of Arts in Counseling is welcoming back, Dr. Bob Marvin. Dr. Marvin is an internationally recognized attachment researcher, clinical psychologist, and developer of The Circle of Security® Intervention. Dr. Bob Marvin will conduct an informed 4 day training on Circle of Security. This four-day workshop is designed to provide an evidence-based therapeutic tool for those who would like to work towards certification as a Circle of Security-Informed therapist as well as others who work in the field with children and families, e.g., case managers, case coordinators, therapists not planning to work toward certification. Learning Objectives - Participants will:

Presenter: Dr. Robert Marvin
Robert S. Marvin, Ph.D. Director, The Ainsworth Attachment Clinic and Circle of Security® Network & Professor Emeritus, The University of Virginia School of Medicine Research Professor, Department of Psychology, The University of Virginia Dr. Bob Marvin is a child and family clinical psychologist and research scientist who has been working with young children since he was an undergraduate. His specialty is children and their caregivers where there has been a disruption in the child’s family relationships during the early years of the child’s life: separation of the child’s parents, maltreatment by caregivers, and children in the foster care or adoption systems. Dr. Marvin was an undergraduate student and research associate with Mary D. Ainsworth, one of the founders of Attachment Theory, at The Johns Hopkins University. He received his Ph.D. in developmental and clinical psychology from the University of Chicago in 1972. After completing a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute of Child Development, University of Minnesota he began teaching and remained at the University of Virginia, where he is currently Professor Emeritus in the School of Medicine and Research Professor in the Department of Psychology. He is also the founder and director of the Ainsworth Attachment Clinic and Circle of Security® Network in Charlottesville, Virginia. Throughout his career, Bob has been active in basic and clinical attachment research, and research with families who have children with chronic medical conditions and/or histories of problematic or disrupted early relationships. With a variety of colleagues, he has developed and tested numerous attachment-related procedures that are used in basic and clinical research, and in clinical practice. He has written and co-authored more than 75 articles, books, and film documentaries on this work.
Wellness & Prevention: Honoring our Traveling Companions - the words, images, stories, and metaphors we carry with us with Dr. Teresa Haase
For the purposes of this workshop, traveling companions are passages, verses or lyrics that accompany and offer sustaining wisdom for the life journey. This workshop will offer space for participants to identify their own traveling companions and to amplify their significance. Participants will be invited to write, illustrate and share their discoveries in small and large groups and collectively contribute to a paper tapestry.

Presenter: Dr. Teresa Haase
Teresa J. Haase earned a BA in English and Secondary Education and an MA and EdS in Counseling Psychology from James Madison University. She holds a PhD in Counseling from The George Washington University. Teresa is licensed as a professional counselor in Virginia and an Approved Clinical Supervisor through the National Board for Certified Counselors. Her clinical, research and teaching interests include the integration of the expressive arts, specifically poetry and metaphor; grief and loss, counselor formation and pedagogy and supervision. Prior to joining the faculty at EMU, Teresa taught high school English and served as an instructor for the Counseling Psychology program at James Madison University. She and her husband live in Harrisonburg with their two children. |
