They say that wine is a blend of art and science, with the winemaker playing both scientist and artist. The art does not have to stop, however, with what is in the glass. With this week’s wine, art is in the glass, on the bottle, and even on the barrel! El Miracle by Mariscal Garnacha sports the perfect balance of beauty in the glass and out.
Tasting Notes: An aromatic lift of red berries and smoky notes wafts from the glass while cherries, red plums and cedar notes dance across your palate. The texture is defined by the balanced acidity and ripe, gripping tannins, topped off by a long, berry-laden finish.
Enjoy With: Paella, tacos, roasted red meats and semi-hard cheeses.
Style: A medium-bodied, fruity red wine.
Terroir/Region: The Garnacha (Grenache) grapes used to make this wine come from the Valentino sub-region of Valencia, Spain, where they can easily ripen in the natural Spanish heat. This area is famous for its gentle slopes running from the sea up to the intensely hot plateau further inland. The ascent to the plateau makes such a difference in the wines that it is divided into three parts based on altitude and soil type, and the finished wines are carefully blended to create the ultimate expression of these hillsides.
Producer: Vincente Gandia is celebrating its 120th anniversary. It has commissioned the ‘El Miracle 120’ series which focuses on the wine knowledge passed among generations as the company has grown, with art both in and on the bottle. Valencia’s Javier Mariscal, a leading Spanish artist and designer, was selected to paint the barrel pictured on this label in his signature style.
Availability: El Miracle by Mariscal Garnacha will be available in the Spanish section at Vintages and online on November 14th, but some stores may have it on the shelf already.
