CGS Graduates Featured in the Pitt Chronicle

CGS graduates Yadhu Dhital and Brianna Kiesel were highlighted for their outstanding achievements both inside and outside of the classroom in the Pitt Chronicle Commencement issue as well as on the University of Pittsburgh home page.

Sherry Miller Brown Retires

 

Sherry Miller Brown, director of the McCarl Center for Nontraditional Student Success is retiring after 45 years of service to the University of Pittburgh. Her last day will be Friday, May 29, 2015.

 

Join us in saying "thank you!"

Students, faculty, and staff are invited to share their favorite memory of Sherry! Cards will be available to fill out at the CGS front desk beginning Monday, May 11. If you would like to fill out a card, but cannot make it in to CGS, please e-mail Jillian Rodgers.

Quick Start Orientation

All new CGS students are encouraged to attend a CGS Quick Start, your one-stop shop to access all the resources you'll need to start the school year stress-free as a new degree-seeking student in the College of General Studies. You can meet with your advisor, enroll in classes, and learn about the wide array of support services designed specifically for busy students.

Newly admitted students are encouraged to sign up for one of the following Quick Starts sessions:

 

Thursday, May 21, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Thursday, June 11, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Wednesday, July 15, 5:30 - 7 p.m.

Tell a Friend: Transfer Friday

The Office of Admissions and Financial Aid is hosting Transfer Friday on May 15, 2015. This event is designed for anyone interested in transfering to Pitt or CGS. Share this link with a friend who might be interested!

 

Students interested in the College of General Studies can speak with Kaitlin Yacob, director of recruitment and enrollment, to learn more about CGS degree completion and certificate programs. Students who cannot attend Transfer Friday should call 412-624-6600 to schedule a one-on-one pre-admission counseling appointment with Kaitlin.

Summer Term 2015

Monday, May 11: Summer 12-week, 6-week-1, 4-week-1 sessions enrollment period ends and classes begin.

Friday, May 15: Summer term add/drop period ends.

Monday, May 25: Memorial Day, University closed.

Apply for Graduation

The deadline to apply for summer term 2015 graduation is FRIDAY, MAY 22, 2015.

 

The deadline to apply for fall term 2015 graduation is FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 4, 2015.

Featured Opportunities

Donations for CGS Student's Trip to Bolivia

As previously mentioned in the April Success Connection, CGS student Teresa Lane is headed to Bolivia in June to work with natives, write a trilingual children's book, and  build a library in a rural town. She is collecting small toys and travel-sized soaps and lotions to take with her to give to the people of Bolivia. Please support her efforts by bringing donations to the CGS front desk through May 25.

Study Abroad: We Want Your Photos!

All CGS students studying abroad this summer or in the fall, are encouraged to pick up a CGS panther paw and pin before departing! Take photos with the paw or pin, e-mail them to Krista Stokes, and they will be featured on the video screen in the CGS reception area. Contact your advisor to pick up your CGS panther paw and pin!

CGS Excellence Awards

Congratulations to all of the students, staff, and faculty recently honored at the annual CGS Excellence Reception. Students recognized for their academic achievement included Chancellor’s Evening Scholars, University Scholars, and Alpha Sigma Lambda students. For the second consecutive year, all of the CGS advisors were recognized as Student Choice Award winners. A special award was presented to Sherry Miller Brown, director of the McCarl Center for Nontraditional Student Success for her 45 years of dedication to the College of General Studies.
