New visitor centre for Albany

The City of Albany has officially opened the new Albany Tourism and Information Hub. The visitor centre is one of the most advanced in the State with touch screen technology, digital windows and virtual reality headsets. The $2.6 million project received funding through Tourism WA's Regional Visitor Centre Sustainability Grants Program. The project was also co-funded by the Australian Government through the Tourism Demand Driver Infrastructure program administered by Tourism WA. Westin Hotel to open its doors

The 368 room, five-star Westin Hotel will officially open tomorrow, with a ribbon cutting ceremony marking the milestone. The Westin Hotel has been developed by BGC Australia at the old FESA House and Perth Chest clinic sites, with the contract managed by the State Government through Tourism Western Australia and LandCorp.  It features 368 rooms including 24 luxury suites, a spa, fitness centre, outdoor infinity pool and event spaces. The Westin is also home to acclaimed Chef Guy Grossi’s first restaurant outside of Victoria, Garum. For more information, visit Westin Hotel's website.

 

Perth Airport named best in Oz

The ACCC has today confirmed that Perth Airport is Australia’s Best Major Airport in its latest airport monitoring report. Perth Airport overtook Brisbane Airport with the highest overall quality rating of the four major Australian airports. The ACCC derives its quality of service information from responses to surveys of passengers and airlines, and from objective data from the monitored airports. The ‘overall quality of service’ measure is calculated as an average of these ratings. For more information, view the report here.

 

Stunning new images available

The 2018 Aussies a huge success for Perth

The history-making 2018 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships, sponsored by Tourism WA, wrapped up on Sunday after drawing an incredible 5,238 competitors to Scarborough Beach. The action-packed 'Aussies' is the largest event of its kind, with members from Australia’s 311 Surf Clubs coming together to compete in more than 450 beach and ocean races. Last chance to register for Corroboree Asia 2018

Corroboree Asia, held biennially, will take place from August 26 to 31, 2018 on the Gold Coast, Queensland. The Tourism Australia-managed Corroboree Asia 2018 brings together more than 100 Australian tourism operators to meet with approximately 300 qualified Aussie specialist agents from priority Asian markets, including Greater China, Japan, Korea, India, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore. Tourism WA partners with Expedia on new campaigns

WA's hotel industry is invited to participate in two new cooperative campaigns with Expedia Australia and Expedia Singapore, to promote our extraordinary State. Tourism WA is looking to drive visitation to the State through the two campaigns, which will start on May 1 and run through to May 31, 2018. Promote your business for free on Tourism WA website

Tourism WA is looking to add more events, restaurants and bars to its consumer website www.westernaustralia.com. Our goal is to change the perception of a holiday in WA by showcasing the diversity and density of events, and places to eat and drink to potential tourists. Regional Development Commission fact sheets released

The latest Regional Development Commission fact sheets have been released, providing an in-depth look at visitation to Western Australia's Regional Development Commission areas including the Gascoyne, Goldfields-Esperance, Great Southern, Kimberley, Mid West, Peel, Perth Metropolitan, Pilbara, South West, and the Wheatbelt. They include information on visitor source markets, reason for travel, accommodation choices and visitor demographics. The fact sheets are based on Tourism Research Australia's National and International Visitor Surveys and report annual average visitation based on the last three calendar years (2015-2017). The fact sheets can be found on our corporate website.

 

Tourism regions and LGA fact sheets now available

The 2017 fact sheets for WA’s tourism regions are now available. They give an overview of visitation to, and visitor spend in, Western Australia's five tourism regions in 2017. The fact sheets also contain a profile of visitors to the region including information such as source market, age, travel party, purpose of visit, top accommodation choices and leisure activities. These are the first of the annual reports to be published by Tourism WA. More information can be found on our corporate website.

 

Nominations for Top Tourism Town Awards close Friday

Visitor centres are invited to enter the GWN7 Top Tourism Town Awards on behalf of the destinations they represent. The Top Tourism Town with a population over 5,000 receives $25,000 advertising on GWN7 and with the winner of the population under 5,000 category receives a $10,000-advertising package with GWN7. The winners will be announced at the 2018 WA Tourism Conference to be held in Perth on September 3 - 5. Nominations close tomorrow (April 27). Visit the website for more information.

 

Help to shape Bushwalking and Trail Running strategy

The State Government, in partnership with Trails WA and industry bodies, is developing a Bushwalking and Trail Running Strategy for Western Australia. If you have 10 minutes to spare, please complete the bushwalking and trail running survey via this link. The results of the survey will provide valuable community input to inform the strategy, which will support more sustainable bushwalking and trail running planning, programs, governance and facilities state-wide.

 

Perth brand assets available for industry

Organisations and businesses involved in promoting Perth as a leisure, business and education destination are encouraged to use new Perth branding in their marketing and communications. Developed by four key West Australian tourism bodies - Tourism WA, Study Perth, Experience Perth and the Perth Convention Bureau - the Perth branding aims to effectively promote the city and its recent public and private investments. Visitor centre tender open

The tender for the Provision of Western Australian Visitor Centre Information and Booking Services has been released and is live on the Tenders WA website. The centre provides and displays information on a wide range of destinations, attractions and tourism product across the State and also takes bookings for these products. Tourism WA is seeking to appoint a suitably resourced entity (company, sole trader or not-for-profit association) to provide visitor information services, retail sales and booking services for the centre. Last chance to register for Perth Hotel and Venue Development Breakfast

Find out the latest in hotel, precinct and venue development at the Perth Hotel and Venue Development Breakfast on May 3. Presented by Tourism Council WA and the Property Council of Australia (WA), the event will include presentations from Hon Paul Papalia CSC MLA, Minister for Tourism; Saskia Doherty, Tourism WA Executive Director Events; Veronica Jeffery, Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority Executive Director Place Management; and Michael Campbell, Lucid Economics Director. Tourism workshops visiting regions in 2018

Tourism Council WA is continuing to deliver a range of industry-relevant training across Western Australia. These workshops, supported by Tourism WA, are regularly updated to ensure they deliver the latest information and insights for your business. Nominations for 2018 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards open

Tourism businesses are invited to nominate for the 2018 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards. Supported by Tourism WA, the Award program is designed to reward and promote excellence within the Western Australian tourism industry. There are 28 business categories to choose from, including Festivals and Events, Tour Operators, Adventure Tourism and several Accommodation options, as well as five individual awards, allowing all sectors of the tourism industry to participate. Nominations are now open.

 

2018 Perth Tourism Industry Exchange

This year the City of Perth will host a half-day training session designed to enhance key skills in the lead up to the 2018 Perth Tourism Industry Exchange. Exhibitors are invited to a special workshop which will focus on Face-to face Networking led by Ryan Mossny and Thinking Innovatively to Gain More Sales led by Andy Lamb.  For more information, click here.

The Business of Geotourism and Geoparks

Australian Indigenous Tourism Conference

October 30-November 2, 2018: The ninth Australian Indigenous Tourism Conference (AITC) will be held in Lorne, Victoria from October 30 to November 2, 2018.  Facilitated by WAITOC, hosted by Eastern Maar Aboriginal Corporation and supported by the State Government of Victoria and Outback Academy, the conference will table the opportunities and challenges within the industry and include presentations by tourism industry leaders.
