Enjoy guided hikes, native animals, hands-on nature crafts, live music, conservation activities, food, a kids' Passport to Nature Challenge and more during LCRA’s free Earth Day Festival at McKinney Roughs Nature Park.

Warmer weather means it’s time to head back to the water for some cool fun. Now is also a good time to brush up on water safety. Watch to learn a few simple rules that can keep you and your family safe around pools, lakes and rivers, and find out what to do if someone around you might be in trouble.

LCRA’s Matagorda Bay Nature Park is supporting the Texas General Land Office Adopt-A-Beach cleanup on Saturday, April 28. LCRA staff will offer two free kayaking trips to beach cleanup volunteers! Explore McKinney Roughs Nature Park with an expert

McKinney Roughs Nature Park is offering free “walk and talk” programs with authors, artists and other experts on Saturday, April 14. The programs will include a combination of indoor instruction and outdoor walks through nature’s classroom with artists, authors and experts on native plant, spiders, reptiles and amphibians. The programs will be at McKinney Roughs Nature Park near Bastrop on Saturday, April 14, between 10:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Each workshop will last one hour. They will begin indoors with a 15- to 30-minute presentation then move outdoors for the remainder of the hour for a guided walk. Dress for the outdoors and trails and bring a water bottle, hat, sunscreen and insect repellent. Learn more»

Tour San Saba Nature Park with LCRA’s Gas Saving Getaways

Nearly two miles of paved trails wind through 40 acres of pecan trees and creek frontage. Deer abound and the sounds of a spring-fed creek add to the natural atmosphere of San Saba River Nature Park. The park is operated by the City of San Saba and is free of charge. Get your walking shoes, rollerblades or your wheelchair and head to San Saba. LCRA parks make great economical getaways. They are close to nature and close to home.

No school? No childcare? No problem!

When your child is out of school, send them packing…to McKinney Roughs Nature Park. Activities include hiking to the Colorado River, tying useful knots, learning about animal tracks, and using maps, compasses and GPS units. All activities are supervised by trained staff. Register online».

LCRA will host a C.A.S.T. for Kids fishing event on Lake Bastrop on Saturday, May 12. This will be LCRA’s eigth year to host the event, which creates once-in-a-lifetime opportunities for special-needs children by giving them the chance to enjoy fishing and the outdoors.
