Upcoming event:Roundtable - Older people in the Americas: Progress and ChallengesWithin the framework of the XLII General Assembly of the Organization of American States "Together against Inequality and Discrimination" and the commemoration of the International Day of Older Persons, the Department of Social Inclusion of the Secretariat for Access to Rights and Equity of the OAS and the Healthy Life Course Unit of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) have organized a Round Table event on: Older Persons in the Americas: Progress and Challenges. This event will be broadcast live via Facebook Live on the OAS Inclusion channel. The objectives are:
Highlights from the UNGA side event: The UN Decade of Healthy Aging - Doing business differentlyThis session was organized by WHO jointly with the Government of Chile with the participation of Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General and Mr. Giorgio Jackson Drago, Chile's Minister of Social Development. Dr. Tedros highlighted that the Decade is an opportunity to improve aging. Significant advances have been made, such as the launching of the Decade Platform, the Global Report on Ageism, tools for older persons to combat Covid-19, and support for countries to build Age-friendly Cities and Communities. Other priorities highlighted were:
Mr. Jackson Drago shared that healthy aging is one of the priorities of the newly appointment administration which also includes long-term care, multisectoral action, older persons as key players for SDGs accomplishments, combating NCDs, and decent social security payments. We want to celebrate the newly announced Healthy Ageing 50 - 50 leaders transforming the world to be a better place to grow older. We congratulate all of them, and especially those from the Region of the Americas for their work and commitment to create a better place for all! Diabfrail LatAmDiabfrail Latam, which is being developed in 4 Latin American countries (Colombia, Peru, Chile and Mexico), was launched in the municipality of Requínoa in Chile on August 25.
