We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincerest thanks and heartfelt gratitude to those who supported and participated in the 12th Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture.

We feel the 2014 Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture Series was a fitting celebration of our late Founder, Nelson Mandela, in the year of his passing and as part of the 20th anniversary of democracy in South Africa.

Our work as the Nelson Mandela Foundation is a journey that is our collective responsibility and it cannot be achieved without valued, like-minded stakeholders like you.

Madiba could sadly not witness first-hand your incredible contribution but, if we may say, you honoured his legacy, wisdom and vision to take action and inspire change through dialogue.

Madiba aptly said: “The foundation has been laid – the building is in progress. With a new generation of leaders and a people that rolls up its sleeves in partnerships for change, we can and shall build the country of our dreams!”

Special thanks to our colleagues and friends from Uganda, at the Makerere University in Kampala, who have shared in this incredible platform via our website, and to those changemakers, local and international, who joined us via the live stream and live broadcast coverage.

To our sponsors: Honourable Mayor Patricia de Lille and the City of Cape Town, the Department of International Relations and Co-operation, The Mandela Rhodes Foundation, Brand South Africa, 1st for Women, Audi South Africa, Carolyn and Douw Steyn, Nashua Central, Rupert & Rothschild and Vodacom – thank you for helping us realise and achieve this event in Madiba’s honour.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the unwavering support and leadership of our Chairman, Board of Trustees, staff and partners of the Foundation.

Let’s continue the critical conversation together.

“When a man has done what he considers to be his duty to his people and his country, he can rest in peace. I believe I have made that effort and that is, therefore, why I will sleep for the eternity.”

We thank you.
