Term-time Online Courses on TeacherCPD.ie
Two short (5 hour) online courses provided by PDST Technology in Education are now open for enrolment on our new look area for online courses – TeacherCPD.ie. The courses are:
Podcasting for Learning
Creating your School Website using Scoilnet Blogs (for website administrators)
The courses run from April 29th to May 12th. A Teaching Council Registration Number and Scoilnet account are required to enrol.

Summer Online IWB Course on TeacherCPD.ie
Enrolment is due to open on May 13th for the online summer course to be provided by PDST Technology in Education via TeacherCPD.ie. The course is Using the Interactive Whiteboard to support Literacy (online). It was offered for the first time in summer 2012 and was very positively received.
This course is suitable for teachers who are comfortable in an online environment and have good quality broadband. A Teaching Council Registration Number and Scoilnet account are required to enrol. .

A reminder that over 200 instances of four face to face courses will be made available by PDST Technology in Education through the education centre network this summer. The courses are:

Using Tablets and Online Tools for Literacy and Numeracy

FÍS 2012 - Don't Forget To Get Involved!
The FÍS initiative is a wonderful example of a project that encourages creativity and imagination among children and their teachers in Irish schools. Organised jointly by PDST Technology in Education and Dun Laoghaire Institute for Art, Design & Technology (IADT), the FÍS initiative culminates each year in the annual
FÍS Film Festival where 25 films are shortlisted for awards in what is essentially an "Oscars" ceremony for Irish schoolchildren. Why not get involved today! Competition deadline is June 27th.
FÍS also offer an online course designed in such a way that corresponds to the complete production cycle of making a film. It is also available as an app for iPad and iPhone.

"Scoilnet for Teachers" on TeacherCPD.ie
This short online course focuses on Scoilnet, the online portal for Irish education. It provides an overview of the main features of Scoilnet and tips and ideas on how to use the website effectively in teaching and learning. It is open from 2nd April until 30th June, 2013. No enrolment necessary.

Webwise - Internet Safety
Resource Finder
On the homepage of Webwise, you will see our "Resource Finder". This facility allows you to search for materials based on Audience/Age and Topic/Theme.

Internet Safety in School and Classroom
This short online course focuses on Internet Safety both from a school and classroom perspective by providing an introduction to teaching effectively and safely with the internet, showing how we can help students be safe and responsible internet users. It is available from 2nd April until 30th June, 2013. A Scoilnet account is required for enrolment.

The Britannica website is moving to a new look and feel in the coming months. The content of the website is not affected and all facts and data remain the same. A preview of the new site is available via the "Go to preview site" button on the main homepage.
Remember, you can access Britannica anytime, anywhere via Scoilnet. Britannica also provides online webinars for teachers.

Your digital you and your school too
These days we’re told that we have a carbon footprint and we need to monitor and manage it carefully. Since the internet came along we’ve also been leaving digital footprints and, unlike footprints on the beach, these aren’t always easily washed away by the next wave. Whether your interactions on the internet have left large or small footprints, it is something that you need to be aware of and actively managed.
