We have many reasons to hope! No Images? Click here Seven years ago, LUNGevity established May as Lung Cancer Hope Month to celebrate the incredible strides in research and survivorship for the lung cancer community. Each year we have more reasons to be hopeful—more treatments are being approved, more people are having their disease diagnosed earlier, the community of advocates is growing stronger, and many people are living longer and better with the disease. This year, we celebrated the beginning of the month with two kick-offs: the International Lung Cancer Survivorship Conference (ILCSC) and the Musical Celebration of Hope Gala. The inaugural International Lung Cancer Survivorship Conference, which includes the HOPE Summit, the COPE Summit and the Survivorship Summit, boasted more than 400 lung cancer patients, survivors, caregivers, physicians, and researchers for a weekend of education, connection, and empowerment! We welcomed many new people, and there is nothing more hopeful to us than to see old friends return! It truly is an annual family reunion that we look forward to. The Musical Celebration of Hope Gala, held at the Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC, was an extraordinary evening of hope, progress, and inspiration, with 33 lung cancer survivors in attendance! (Pictured are survivors Greta Kreuz and Juanita Segura.) This year, we were proud to award the LUNGevity Face of Hope Award to Julie Brahmer, MD, MSc, FASCO, of Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center for her incredible commitment to lung cancer patients worldwide, and the Hope Award for Corporate Leadership to Guardant Health for their pioneering work with liquid biopsies. Great food, fun 80’s music, and inspirational people infused the entire evening with HOPE. Lung Cancer Hope Month gives us another opportunity to raise our voices, share the great advances that are being made for people affected by lung cancer, and continue to fund hope by investing in impactful research. We need your help! You can help save lives. Strategic investment in lung cancer research will ensure patients the same promise that is now available for breast, prostate, colorectal, and other cancers — earlier detection, more effective treatment options, higher quality of life, and thousands of lives saved. For every dollar that LUNGevity invests, scientists are able to secure $12 of additional funding to continue their research, giving our research dollars an even greater impact. Will you help? Learn more about how to support LUNGevity’s research. Also, be sure to read our Impact Report to learn about the impact that LUNGevity is having on improving outcomes for lung cancer and improving how people are living with the disease. Together, we will create a world where no one dies of lung cancer. |
