SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER

After a bit of an unscheduled break from newsletters over the summer, it's now definitely time to start them coming again!

A couple of weekends ago saw us taking a stand at Morgan's 'Run for the Hills' event in Malvern. A very impressive and successful weekend that Morgan staged, with lots of Morgans on show, entertainment ranging from AutoSolos to motorcycle display teams to outdor classical music concerts complete with fireworks. Our stand showcased the coach trimming side of the business, with plenty of interest and lots of work booked into the trimshop diary.

During the summer, I visited the Lotus Factory with one of our customers who's ordering a new Lotus Exige Sport 380. A fascinating tour was provided by Scott from Lotus, and although there's a charge for a tour (unless you're buying a car of course!) the Lotus Factory is well worth a visit. And now we're eagerly waiting for the Exige to arrive - the Sport 380 is the range topping model, and quite a beast it is too, 0 - 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and handling as only Lotus know how!

It's an on-going theme, but we're still looking out for more cars for the showroom, as we're selling faster than we can replace. So if you're thinking of selling your car - Morgan, Lotus or other interesting sports car - we'd love to hear from you.

For more news read on...and hope you enjoy this latest newsletter!

MORGAN NATIONAL DEALER OPEN DAY

On Saturday 14th October, the Morgan Factory is holding a National Open Day across its dealer network.

The aim, to encourage existing and prospective Morgan owners to come along and sample the latest models, and so gently tempt them into a new Morgan...!

Needless to say, we'll be fully participating in this initiative, and will have a range of demonstrators available to try, along with food and refreshments to keep energy levels high - we know it's hard work trying to resist the temptation of a new Morgan!

For anyone who's tempted to order a new Morgan on the 14th October, we've worked with Morgan to put some interesting offers in place. These include:

Free choice of any leather colour (worth £945) £500 discount off any paint option 2 years service plan (worth about £700) If a Morgan is bought using finance from Close Brothers (Morgan’s finance partner), then £1,000 of the deposit will be paid by Morgan 2 x Morgan luggage (his and hers black leather holdall, worth £600) Bottle of Balvenie (a rather fine malt whisky from one of Morgan’s partners)

(These offers are for any new order placed with Morgan, rather than applying to existing cars we hold in the showroom)

More details about our Open Day will appear on our website and Facebook page in the coming days, but if in the meantime you'd like to find out more or arrange a test drive, then please contact John or Phil on 01234 750205 or sales@allonwhite.co.uk

LOTUS NEWS

The Lotus Driving Academy is now up and running again after being closed for a number of months. This operates on the Factory test track at Hethel and as before, a range of experiences and courses are available. These include the highly regarded 'Lotus Licence' which can be done in stages over time or in one 3 day weekend.

Details of the Academy, including video footage of how the track should be driven, can be seen at www.lotusdrivingacademy.com [http://www.lotusdrivingacademy.com/]

There's also very good new from Lotus regarding overall financial performance. Sales are up significantly, for example a 57% increase in mainland Europe and a six fold increase in North America. Losses for Financial Year 2016/7 are significantly lower compared to previous years, and the company is on target to be fully profitable in 2017/8. If you'd like greater details relating to Sales, Profit before Tax, EBITDA, etc (I'm only a car dealer not an accountant so I'm not going to attempt to explain!), then have a look at Lotus' press release by visiting www.lotuscars.com/news/corporate/lotus-delivers-radical-financial-turnaround

A lot of Lotus' success seems to be down to a bigger and improved product line-up, with the continual release of new or updated models. On this note, the latest model to be announced by Lotus is the Evora GT430. Boasting 430bhp, this is Lotus' fastest production car ever, with a top speed just shy of 200mph and the ability to dispatch the 0 - 60mph dash in 3.6 seconds.

DRIVE 7TENTHS

Continuing on from previous newsletters, Neil Furber from DRIVE 7TENTHS carries on in his role as our 'agony aunt' for all things driving related. To find out what he's advising on this month, read on...

---------------------------------------------

Dear D7T,

Whether I’m watching racing on the telly, having a go at karting or on my annual trackday, I keep hearing about and trying to use the ideal racing line. Where does this come from and why do some drivers do something different from what is meant to be ideal?

Thanks,

Towing the line

Dear Towing the line,

This is perhaps the most complex question that I’ve been asked in this column with an answer a little long for the newsletter. So we will have an introduction to the subject here, and the full article on the DRIVE 7TENTHS website.

So let’s start with some very basic theory...

Any circuit is a combination of straights and corners (either steady, increasing or decreasing radius or even a combination of these). On the straights, the driver can accelerate or hold a maximum speed but it is in the corners where things get interesting. Initially, I’ll ignore the advanced techniques involving blending braking or accelerating with cornering and the lap time gains achieved.

At a basic level, the car has a maximum speed for any given radius based on a total available grip. Finding a way to maximise this radius by using the full width of the circuit during a corner will allow the greatest cornering speed. Therefore the driver can minimise braking and start the next straight at a higher initial speed. Clearly this is win, win.

SATURDAY BREAKFAST CLUBS

Our very successful Breakfast Clubs have now been running for 5 years. They take place on the first Saturday of the month, kicking off at 9:30am with bacon rolls and hot drinks, followed at 10am by what's normally a motoring themed talk or activity.

For our next breakfast club on Saturday 7th October, we're delighted in that John Luck, one of our customers and regular breakfast club attendees, has offered to come along and talk about his part in an American invasion of Russia!

Or as an alternative description, his tour - which took more than a few weeks - crossing Russia by Harley Davidson. One of the ultimate biking trips and great inspiration for anyone planning a longer tour, be it on 2 wheels or 4.

All are welcome to our Breakfast Clubs - no need to book, but just turn up on the day.

SYWELL CLASSIC

The Sywell Classic - Pistons and Props motoring festival takes place at Sywell Aerodrome on the weekend of the 23/24 September.

This is a superb event, quite small and intimate, but with a great range of activities and entertainment. In some ways like a scaled down Goodwood Revival. There are plenty of classic and interesting cars and motorbikes, many being put through their paces down the runway; air displays; live music; food and drink; trade stands; and club stands featuring many different marques.

We'll be taking a stand at Sywell and showcasing a range of our Morgans, new and used, and if you fancy a good day out at Sywell and are able to drop by at our stand, we'd love to see you!

For more details about the event, visit - www.sywellclassic.co.uk

SPORTS CARS WANTED!

We continue to be exceptionally busy on the car sales front, and as a result we're on the look out for yet more cars for our showroom!

So if you're thinking of selling your car - Morgan, Lotus or other interesting classic or modern sports car - please do get in touch with our sales manager, Phil, and he can chat things through.

We buy cars outright, take cars in part exchange, and sell cars on behalf of their owners. We're very flexible as regards the solution that's right for both sides.

So if you would like to talk more about selling your car, then please give Phil a call on 01234 750205 or email phil@allonwhite.co.uk
