NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER

A couple of weeks ago we took part in Morgan's first National Dealer Open Day. We had a great turn out of visitors who were able to enjoy test drives in the full range of Morgan demonstrators we had on hand. Some great feedback from this day, and more than a couple of converts to the delights of Morgan ownership!

It was also interesting to see the reaction from some long standing Morgan owners to the trying out the latest cars. They were quite surprised by how different the cars felt - in a very positive way - as regards performance, steering and refinement. So although Morgan styling may not have changed over the years (and that's a very good thing), the driving experience certainly has!

On the Lotus front, earlier this week I attended the monthly club night of the local branch of Club Lotus. Held in a Cambridgeshire pub - with good food to start and a great crowd of Lotus enthusiasts - if you're locally based and own or are interested in Lotus, it's well worth attending. There's also always a guest speaker or theme planned for the evening. To find out more, click on Cambs Club Lotus [http://www.cambsclublotus.org.uk/]

As we move into winter, our main service workshop naturally becomes a little quieter. So for this year, as we have done in previous years, we'll be running a winter discount offer to tempt a few more cars through our workshop doors. More details about this later in the newsletter.

So for more news as to what's happening at Allon White Sports Cars, read on...and I hope you enjoy this latest newsletter!

MORGAN NEWS

There's not much to report this month on the Morgan front. At the Factory, the last of the Aeros 8s and Plus 8s are going through production. What comes next is the subject of much speculation within the Morgan world, but the Factory is keeping tight lipped for now!

The new car we currently receive the most enquiries about is the EV3 - Morgan's electric 3 Wheeler which is due to enter production late next year. Alternative fuel vehicles have received a lot of publicity in recent months, with UK sales growing strongly, and so it's great to see Morgan fully embracing this technology.

On the subject of 3 Wheelers, we have our next demonstrator due to enter production early in 2018. This is to the latest 'Euro 4' specification and meets all the stringent rules and regulations demanded for European Type Approved vehicles. For a small manufacturer like Morgan, it's a tough ask keeping up with the ever changing legislation both in Europe and the global market. But with over 70% of production going abroad, it's a challenge Morgan have to continually take on and deal with, and they do this very successfully.

And as a bit of market research, or just for some fun, what would you like to see Morgan produce in the coming months and years? No rules or limits attached to this question, and as an example, those of you who subscribed to MOG magazine will have seen some of the stunning concepts imagined by Jon Wells, Morgan's chief designer.

WINTER WORKSHOP OFFER

As mentioned earlier, if you're thinking of having work done to your Lotus or Morgan over the winter months, be it upgrade work, restoration type work or just routine servicing, then now could be a good time to get in touch...

From the 20th November until the 28th February we're running a winter offer in our main service workshop. This allows 20% off our normal labour prices as well as discounted rates on MOTs. So some useful savings!

To find out more, or talk through possible work to your car, please call Mike or Julie on 01234 750205 or email workshop@allonwhite.co.uk

(Please note that this offer only applies to our main service workshop and not our coach trimming workshop)

LOTUS ELISE CUP 260

Lotus continue with their successful strategy of producing limited edition versions of their different models.

The latest is the Lotus Elise Cup 260, which will be an ultra rare limited edition car with only 30 produced for sale worldwide.

Weighing 862 kg, it is the lightest Elise Cup ever produced, but the heaviest at speed...so how does that make sense? The answer of course is in the downforce generated, with 180kg produced at 151mph (very precise, but that's as you'd expect from an engineering led company like Lotus!).

Other numbers are a supercharged engine producing 250bhp, the 0 - 60 mph dash dispatched in 3.8 seconds, and it's 2.5 seconds quicker round the Hethel test track than its predecessor, the Elise Cup 250.

Painted in 'Championship Gold' with a black alcantara, leather and carbon fibre interior, it's a stunning looking car. For full details visit - www.lotuscars.com/news/corporate/lotus-elise-cup-260-sports-car-alchemy

Alternatively we can offer a couple of rather nice Lotus - an Elise and a beautiful example of a sought after model, the Europa.

Then to round things off, 2 small but perfectly formed cars, with loads of character from totally different ends of the performance spectrum, an Abarth 500 and a 2CV.

SATURDAY BREAKFAST CLUB

Our very successful Breakfast Clubs have now been running for 5 years. They take place on the first Saturday of the month, kicking off at 9:30am with bacon rolls and hot drinks, followed at 10am by what's normally a motoring themed talk or activity.

For our next breakfast club, which is this Saturday (4th November), we'll repeat a topical theme we've covered in the past. Namely how best to lay up a car for winter, and John and Phil will run through their recommendations on the subject.

And for owners who like to use their Morgan or Lotus year round, we'll also handle any questions or concerns people may have about using their car during the winter months, e.g.corrosion and tyres.

All are welcome to our Breakfast Clubs - no need to book, but just turn up on the day. Or for more information, visit https://allonwhite.co.uk/saturday-breakfast-club-events

A NEW BOOK FROM ROY SMITH...

One of our long standing customers is Roy Smith who has enjoyed a succession of cars - Morgan, Lotus, Porsche, Morgan again, etc.

As well as contributing to this newsletter, and talking at our breakfast clubs, Roy is also a writer of Motoring Books - seven to date, mostly about Motorsports.

His latest tome, which will be number eight, is "Powered by Porsche - the alternative race cars". This will be limited to just 1,500 copies and published by Veloce.

This is now just hitting the book vendors, and what a book it is! We can do no better than to quote from a review in Classic Cars:

"Roy Smith’s stunning 466-page, meticulously-researched tome on Porsches that aren’t Porsches, is thoroughly welcome. It takes a decade-by-decade view of Porsche-engine specials from the earliest days of Ferdinand’s engineering consultancy and nascent marque, to the further developments of its super-successful sports-racers of the Seventies and Eighties. There’s also plenty of madness in here, with twin-engined racing cars, Porsche-engined aircraft and roadgoing Group C cars."

For a short YouTube clip of Roy explaining the inspiration for his book, which then leads onto a full length interview, visit - www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruZAdy0agKo

SPORTS CARS WANTED!

Even though winter is approaching, we continue to be busy on the car sales front, and as a result we're on the look out for more cars for our showroom!

So if you're thinking of selling your car - Morgan, Lotus or other interesting classic or modern sports car - please do get in touch with our sales manager Phil, and he can chat things through.

We buy cars outright, take cars in part exchange, and sell cars on behalf of their owners. We're very flexible as regards the solution that's right for both sides.

So if you would like to talk more about selling your car, then please give Phil a call on 01234 750205 or email phil@allonwhite.co.uk
