Community StoriesLogan volunteers recognised in the 2025 Australia Day Awards In a heartwarming celebration of community spirit, two dedicated City of Logan residents have been honoured in the 2025 Australia Day Awards. Abdul Khan from Woodridge, who started the Logan Roos Football Club to support refugees and migrants, was named Citizen of the Year. Lilly Rider from Riverbend, a passionate advocate for Orange Sky Australia, was recognised as Young Citizen of the Year for her amazing fundraising efforts. Do you have a heartwarming story about creating, sharing, and growing belonging in your community? The annual 'Tell Us Your Story' competition by the Neighbours Every Day Team from Relationships Australia is now open, inviting people across Australia to share their neighbourly stories. Whether it's a video, artwork, photo, written piece, audio, or digital presentation, your story could inspire others and win amazing prizes. Entries are open until 2 March 2025. Plus, keep an eye out for information about Council's own exciting Neighbour Day competition, coming soon! ![]() Clean Up Australia Day - Sunday 2 March Since 1990, over 22 million Australians have pulled on their gloves and joined their local communities to make a real difference in conserving and improving our environment. Council is putting a call out to all schools, businesses, community groups and individuals to get outdoors in Logan and be part of the action this Clean Up Australia Day! You can Register or join a clean-up site with family, friends and colleagues. All registered sites will receive a free Clean Up kit to help promote and deliver your event. To support our community taking part, Council will accept Clean Up Australia Day bags at our waste and recycling facilities free of charge. ![]() Community EventsGrand Gazebo Opening Night at the Beenleigh Community Garden The Beenleigh Neighbourhood Centre invites you to celebrate the official opening of the Beenleigh Community Garden Gazebo Square. The evening will showcase the new social area of the BCG and will include a special thank you to everyone involved in creating the beautiful new garden space in the heart of Beenleigh's town centre. It's a chance to drop by, have a cuppa and a yarn, and learn about the support services available to you in Logan. No appointments are required. This program is proudly supported by Logan City Council. When: Every second Monday of the month, anytime between 9am to midday from February to July 2025. ![]() Image: Muralappi Arts KENG's programs for childrenKingston East Neighbourhood Group (KENG) offers FREE playgroups across Logan for parents and children to connect, make friends, and share experiences. These sessions provide stimulating play opportunities that help children develop new skills, including language and communication, in a supportive and fun environment, promoting social interaction and learning. This event is a fantastic opportunity to network, build relationships, and learn about local services and cultural insights. Bring a plate of food to share if you can, but it's not necessary. Come along and enjoy a warm, welcoming atmosphere that strengthens our community bonds. When: The first Friday of every month, 8am ![]() Funding OpportunitiesApplications are now open for Logan City Council’s EnviroGrants 2025 program. This program provides funding to individuals, community groups, businesses, and organisations to undertake initiatives that protect and enhance the natural environment and foster sustainability actions across the City of Logan. Funding amounts are available across five categories to support a wide range of initiatives. Applications close: Wednesday, 12 March 2025 Applications are now open for the Queensland Youth Week Community Event Grants. This program offers grants of up to $5,000 (inclusive of GST) to young people aged 12–25 to host exciting and impactful events during Queensland Youth Week 2025 (6–12 April). Applicants must provide a signed endorsement from their Auspice Organisation and, if under 18, a signed parent/guardian consent form. Applications close: 11:59 PM (AEST), 23 February 2025 Applications are now open for the Mercy Foundation’s Social Justice Small Grants Program. This program provides seed funding ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 to assist communities and organisations in building capacity for greater social justice in Australia. Priority is given to projects that focus on inclusion for marginalised groups and those that tackle poverty and disadvantage. Only not-for-profit organisations are eligible to apply. Applications close: midnight, 4 April 2025 Applications are now open for the Supporting People with Cancer (SPWC) Round 16 grant program. This initiative funds community-led projects aimed at reducing the impact of cancer and improving support for those affected. The program focuses on achieving equity in cancer outcomes, particularly for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Eligible organisations include registered charities and not-for-profits with strong community connections. Grants range from $40,000 to $120,000. Applications close: 20 February 2025 Applications are now open for the NAIDOC Local Grants. This program provides funding to support activities and events during National NAIDOC Week (6 to 13 July 2025) that celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, achievements, and contributions. Both First Nations and non-Indigenous organisations are eligible to apply, with a preference for those with significant First Nations ownership and control. Grants range from $10,001 to $25,000. Applications close: 3pm AEDT on Thursday 20 February 2025 Applications are now open for the Strong and Resilient Communities Activity – Inclusive Communities (SARC – IC) Round 4 Grants. This program supports the social and economic participation of vulnerable and disadvantaged people, including young people, people with disabilities, women at risk of isolation, and the unemployed. Eligible organisations include companies, cooperatives, incorporated associations, Indigenous corporations, local governments, statutory entities, and trusts. Grants will be awarded for projects running from 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2027.
