As the Holidays Approach...A Special Offer for Holiday Gift Giving,
A Contest & More
Dear Readers: First, thanks to those of you who wrote with birthday greetings after reading my last newsletter. What a lovely way to celebrate! You definitely made turning another year older very special. As this is the season of giving, I have an idea that may help you with your holiday shopping. I know that book lovers treasure the opportunity to give a personally inscribed book for the holidays. With that in mind, I have made arrangements with my local bookseller, Once Upon a Crime, where I will
go to their store and sign books for those of you who would like to order them. I can personally inscribe them as you wish, as well, and then your order will be mailed to you --- unless you are local and would like to pick it up. I am happy to sign any of my books that you may want to give. I know when I was on tour, there were mentions of readers giving This Tender Land this holiday season, and signed a number that were destined to be gifts. I happily will sign Ordinary Grace or
any of the Cork O'Connor titles, as well. To ensure that your purchases arrive in time for the holidays, please call the store at (612) 870-3785 or email them with your order by Monday, December 16th. This will ensure that I have time to get to the store to sign the books --- and that they can be mailed to arrive in time. I am zipping to New York for an overnight trip on December 16th as This Tender Land is one of the five finalists for Book of the Month Club’s Book of the Year, and the prize is being announced that evening. Many thanks to all of you who voted!
Contest: Win a Signed Copy of
This Tender Land
In this season of giving, for my latest contest, I am giving away 5 signed copies of This Tender Land. The prize can be mailed to you, or to whomever you would like. If you are sending it to someone else, let me know where indicated on the entry form so I can tell the recipient in a note who the gift giver is when I send it out.
Enter for a chance to win one by Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 11:59pm EDT. Please note that this contest is only open to residents of the United States. Last Contest's Winners: The five winners of the last contest where each person received an audiobook of This Tender Land were Brenda from Avon Park, FL; Gayle from Melrose, MA; Angela from Frisco, TX; Jane from Morganton, NC; and Rebecca from Baldwin, WI.
Wrapping Up Travels with Kent
And a Glimpse of What's Ahead...
I closed my book tour in Florida, presenting at the Miami Book Fair. This is the sunrise over Biscayne Bay, from my hotel room on the final day. It was a great tour, and this was a stellar way to end my travels.
And this is what I’m at work on. I’m composing the final chapter of the first draft of the manuscript of Lightning Strike. This story is a prequel to my Cork O’Connor series, and I’ve just had a ball writing it. Not sure yet of the release date. I’ll keep you posted.
Although I tried to write in my hotel every day on tour, the work is much easier when I’m home. Usually, I write in a local coffee shop. On this day, because of the blizzard, I wrote at home.
Finally landed home for good after my long book tour — just in time for the first blizzard of the year, the day before Thanksgiving. With my trusty Toro electric snowblower and my ergonomic snow shovel in hand, I have no fear of winter, which is a good thing living in Minnesota.
A quick reminder that I am happily scheduling book club events for January and beyond; I love to chat via Skype with book groups. You can schedule one here. I so look forward to talking to groups about This Tender Land. Here is a book
club discussion guide that includes questions that may enhance your conversation about the book, as well as some ideas for enhancing your meeting.
Videos and Companion Materials
Wishing you all a beautiful holiday season whether you celebrate Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or just the splendor of December. It's hard to believe that this is the end of a decade as well — a decade where I published 11 books and a reader's companion! None of what I so joyfully do would be possible without my wonderful readers; I am so grateful to each and every one of you. Here's to a brilliant 2020 for all of us. Onward to the decade ahead! Blessings... Kent
