Junior School NoticesTERM 1 WEEK 8
From the Head of Junior School
Responsible Behaviour in the Junior SchoolThis term, Junior School staff have been working collaboratively to review our current Behaviour Management and Bullying policies, so they reflect our considered approaches when managing behaviour in the Junior School. Classroom Essential Agreements have been evaluated and we have developed a student-friendly Behaviour Management Flowchart clearly, outlining behaviours and consequences.
We have also developed a simple document that outlines the difference between a Mean Moment, Conflict, and Bullying. As staff, we aim to trial these documents with our students and seek feedback. We invite parents to review these documents and provide us with feedback. We will be holding an information session on Monday 3 April and encourage parents to attend. Further information on our Parents as Learners event can be found below. The Importance of SleepAs we come towards the end of term, I have noticed
our students becoming more tired. Sleep is incredibly important for young children as it plays a critical role in their physical, cognitive, and emotional development. Here are some key reasons why sleep is so important for young children: - Brain development: Sleep is essential for brain development in young children, as it helps consolidate memories, promote learning, and support cognitive functioning.
- Growth and development: During sleep, the body releases growth hormone, which is important for physical growth and development.
- Behaviour and mood: Lack
of sleep can lead to irritability, mood swings, and behavioural problems in young children.
- Immune function: Sleep plays a crucial role in supporting the immune system, which is particularly important for young children who are more susceptible to illness.
- Safety: Children who are well-rested are more alert and less likely to experience accidents or injuries.
Overall, young children need a lot of sleep to support their growth, development, and overall health and wellbeing. It is recommended that infants get between 14-17 hours of sleep per day, toddlers get between 11-14 hours, and pre-schoolers get between 10-13 hours. Primary-aged children require between 8-12 hours of
sleep. Establishing healthy sleep habits early on can help set children up for a lifetime of healthy sleep.
