Dear Residents,
Thank you to everyone who attended our International Women’s Day morning tea on Friday! It was a fantastic event with over $1,000 raised for the Girls Refuge. There is still time to donate! Visit https://www.detourhouse.org.au/get-involved/donate/
As we start to enter Autumn, there here are some tips to keep our streets clean:
- ensure your vehicles are parked off the street on designated cleaning days.
- Sweep gutters and driveways instead of hosing them down or using a leaf blower.
- If using a leaf blower, direct leaf litter into a pile to be scooped up and disposed of appropriately.
- Place leaves into compost or your organic waste green lid bin.
The street sweeper comes by every 3 weeks.
Finally, Council has been working hard to deliver an extensive footpath upgrade project throughout the Strathfield LGA. Completed projects in February include sections of Hampstead Road, High Street, Juno Parade, The Close and Pemberton St. These upgrades are part of Council’s commitment to improve the safety and appearance of our streets.

Composer and Lyricist, Dorothy Dodd (1921-2006)
March is Women’s History Month. Today we celebrate the career of lyricist, Dorothy Dodd of 3 Glenarvon Street, Strathfield. Dorothy studied at the Conservatorium of Music and published the first of her many songs, Rainbow of Dreams, aged 20. But she was best known for writing the English lyrics to the popular song, Granada, written by Mexican composer Agustin Lara in 1932. Bing Crosby recorded the song with Dorothy’s lyrics in 1951 and it was also made famous by both Frank Sinatra and Frankie Laine. Strathfield to Hornsby Rail Closure 9-10 March 2024
Sydney Trains is planning the closure of the Northern Line between Strathfield and Hornsby on Saturday 09 and Sunday 10 March 2024. During this period, buses will replace train services for the extent of the closure.
