TERM 3 WEEK 3

Dear valued member of the PLC community,

It certainly has been a very wet week but fortunately, our students have been able to get out and play for most Recess and Lunchtime breaks. Children being outside enjoying fresh air and exercise has many benefits. On these wet days, please pack a plain raincoat for your child’s use.

Festival of Science

What a wonderful day of science exploration, wondering, and questioning.

Photos from the day can be found here.

Thank you so much to all members of our community who contributed so fully to this hugely successful day.

Speakers' Challenge

Congratulations to Anaya Hapuarachchi (Year 3) and Lucia Bennett (Year 4) for representing PLC so well at the Year 3 and 4 finals held at Wesley College on Tuesday night.

Our Years 5 and 6 finalists will speak after the Year 4 Assembly, with the top four students attending the IPSHA Seniors Final at Scotch College on Wednesday 7 September.

State Cross Country Championships

Good luck to all the PLC girls in Years 3 to 6 who will be participating in the State Cross Country Championships tomorrow.

Rev Nalin's Reflections

During the mid-year break I lived with many mixed emotions, watching the country of my birth in economic and political meltdown, with ordinary people unable to buy sufficient food or fuel; the country economically bankrupt, unable to meet its foreign debt obligations; and the political leadership forced into resignation and exile.

Important Information

Year 4 Assembly

The scheduled assembly hosted by Year 4 has been moved to Thursday 18 August. We look forward to enjoying this event, and I know the students are excited about sharing their learning with you all.

Founders’ Day

On Thursday 18 August, we celebrate PLC’s 107th birthday. We will commence the day with the Year 4 Assembly, followed by a celebratory cupcake at Recess.

At midday, our Years 4, 5, and 6 students will be joining the rest of the school and Old Collegians in the Hugh Baird Sports Centre for the Founders’ Day service.

Please ensure that your daughter’s uniform, whether school or PE, is neat and tidy and a tie is worn where applicable.

Book Parade

We welcome our parents to attend the 2022 Book Parade on Tuesday 23 August at 8.45 am.

The theme for this year is “dreaming with eyes open” which lends itself to costumes being anything to do with the world of books and imagination. Students may choose to bring the book from which their character is taken.

Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Pre-Primary students will parade in classes, assisted by our Year 6 Leaders. Students in Years 1 to Year 6 will parade in their Houses.

Parents as Learners

Further Parents as Learners presentations will continue next week for Pre-Kindergarten to Year 2 and Year 5 families.

All the information can be found in the 'Important Dates' section below.

We Need Your Old Books

This year at Open Garden Day, the Year 7 parents are running the second-hand book stall – The Book Nook – and are calling for donations of books (for children and adults), DVDs for children, and DVD documentaries. No magazines, please.

Please drop-off books into the collection boxes located at Junior School Reception.

Slipway Reminder

To avoid congestion during drop-off and pick-up at the Junior School slipway, and for the safety of our children, parents and guardians are reminded that cars are only allowed to enter and exit the slipway as per the diagram.
