Vale Graeme McNicol

It is with sadness that we inform you of the passing of Graeme McNicol, a cherished member of our club and community. Graeme served as our club secretary, caretaker, pennant player and junior supervisor, dedicating countless hours to the betterment of the club and its members.

Gerry King, an active Life member of EMTC, has kindly shared a few words about Graeme.

News has reached us that Graeme McNicol passed away on Monday 3rd March from a stroke.

Graeme and his wife Lynne were caretakers at EMTC in the eighties and resided in the flat above the clubhouse.

They came to the club through their neighbour, Ray O’Connor, who was president of EMTC at the time.

Graeme initially did not play tennis as his main sport was as a boundary umpire at VFL/AFL level.

Having tennis courts in his new front yard the temptation to “give it a go” proved too much. Being very athletic and light on his feet, he quickly adapted to the game playing Pennant for the club.

His duties as caretaker were varied, ranging from cleaning the clubhouse, looking after the pool, to maintenance issues all carried out with a willing spirit. He also assisted in taking club juniors to a couple of country tournaments.

On leaving East Malvern he and Lynne purchased a motel in Albury which they managed for many years.
