Compasses - Velocitek PRISM back in stock!

We have just received our first batch of the new and improved Velocitek PRISM. The updated PRISM features an enhanced refresh rate and a new USB rapid charging feature, in addition to solar charging.  

The PRISM compass is available by itself or as part of value bundle with the CarbonParts EC2 mounting bracket. 

Ovington chooses Southeast Sailboats

ILCA approved builder Ovington has chosen Southeast Sailboats to supply our spliced rigging as an option when purchasing a new boat from Ovington, or one of the many Ovington dealers including Sailingfast, Sailcenter and NegriNautica. 

The rigging pack comprises spliced Harken based outhaul, downhaul and kicker/vang systems optimized to the rig selected, plus a whole host of other items to get your Ovington boat race ready, including spliced traveller, mast retainer, centreboard strop and elastic, and our unique hiking strap adjustment system!

A busy time of year with ILCA6 World championships concluding in Poland today, and others about to start.  Congratulations to everyone competing -  in particular our many customers from all over the world and our sponsored sailor Jon Emmett who finished 3rd in the ILCA6 Mens event.

The last few months also had two major events that were key to selection for the Paris 2024 Test Event that started today.  Southeast Sailboats sponsored sailor Micky Beckett was named as the GBR ILCA7 representative after great results.  Matilda Nicholls in the ILCA6 came agonizingly close to selection but missed out to the vastly more experienced Hannah Snellgrove.  Our other sponsored sailor, USA’s Chapman Petersen had already secured his spot at the Paris 2024 Test Event, which you may have read about in our last newsletter.

Hiking Strap Adjustment System – New Colours

As a result of some customer requests, our best selling hiking strap adjustment system just got better -  you can have it in a few more colours!  Now available in grey, plus red, blue and yellow. Top tip – pick a colour that will stand out from your traveller line and mainsheet to make grabbing the right line that bit easier.  As always you can buy a complete system (line assembly with the cleat), or if you already have the small cleat, just the line assembly by itself.  If you haven't seen our unique system in action have a look at the video via the link below!

Chartering? Check out our charter boat checklist!

A question that we get asked often is “do you have a package for when we are chartering?”.  The answer is no as there are so many personal preferences that the combinations are immense.  We have however put together this article/checklist to help remind you of what you need to take when chartering.  If we have missed anything let us know!!

Chartering an ILCA for your next event and unsure what you need to take?  I have put together the following to help remind you what you may need to take.  Charter boats may come with more than we are assuming, but in recent years what comes on/with your charter boat seems to be reducing so we have erred on the cautious side.  Let’s start with the obvious and then move bow to stern over all the smaller bits that you may forget to pack, and finish up with a few spares that you should consider.

OK, let’s start with the obvious items:

• Sail and batten set.
• Tiller and tiller extension.
• Kicker/vang, downhaul and outhaul systems, not forgetting you clew block, clew strap and bungee.
• Centreboard and rudder blade/stock (although these are normally included in a charter in Europe)

Bow to Stern Checklist:

• Mast retainer line
• PVC tape .............................................

Kicker/Vang Upgrades: Customers are just loving the Allen XHL and the new Allen XHL middle blocks.  

Tag-On Control Lines: If you are using the old style Harken 407 metal middle block, or one of the Allen XHL double middle blocks our ‘tag on’ control lines are a very neat way of attaching the line to the block.

Travellers:   More and more top level sailors including Olympic medallists are choosing our elite ProMAX-99 traveller.   Featuring a super thin cover over a super low stretch core, this traveller isn’t as durable as our other travellers, but if you want the best traveller that you can get in terms of performance, at the expense of longer term durability, then this is THE traveller to get.  If you want a traveller with a tougher cover then our ProMAX DURA may be the one for you.

Please note that during the longer events the 'Shop Closed' sign will be up on the website.  Plenty more events that I would like to be at but lots of splicing to do!
