    Open Garden Day

Last Friday, we were lucky enough to have sunshine for our annual Open Garden Day. The perfect weather was a great backdrop to the activations, market stalls, performances and, of course, gardens on display.

The sense of community spirit was strong and it was great to see so many students and families in attendance.

A special thank you to the PLC Open Garden Day Committee, Melissa Alder, Chrissy Miller-McKinley, Susannah Evans, Michelle Barrett, and Tanya Dyson for their tireless efforts in putting this event together. We are extremely grateful for all you have done. We also thank our student helpers and PLC staff who made sure that the event ran smoothly.

    Creative Arts and Technology Exhibition

Last Thursday night we held our annual Creative Arts and Technology Exhibition, Insight, and the phenomenal work of our students was put on display. The breadth and depth of the skill and talent on display was a credit to our students and a testament to the expertise of their teachers.

The opening night of the exhibition featured a fun fashion show wherein students were able to model their creations, along with the Food Science class serving up some delectable treats. Thank you to all the staff involved in putting together such an impressive exhibition.

    Rev Nalin's Reflections

Often, I am asked by students and parents alike what I do with my spare time or, as I prefer to think of it, my special time. My inevitable response is cooking, for not only is it a personal hobby I love, but at a different time in my life I earned my living from it.

One of my pleasures is being able to wander in my rear garden picking various herbs I want to use in creating a special dinner for guests.

PLC had two teams compete this year consisting of:

    Livya Siford (Year 9)
    Emma Ryan (Year 9)
    Abigail Tait (Year 8)
    Edith Hellings (Year 9)
    Yuki Li (Year 9)
    Vicky Wei (Year 9)
    Elise Wright (Year 9)
Tessa van de Veire (Year 9)

Yuki Li was awarded a Merit Award for her strong individual performance.

The Olympiad also serves as a talent search to identify talented mathematicians who are invited to join a working group at UWA.

Linda Zhou (Year 12) and Yvonne Cui (Year 11) have been mentoring these students and running problem-solving sessions before school. They have both been working in the UWA groups over the past couple of years and are hoping to encourage other young talented students to follow in their footsteps.

    Milly MCs in Chinese

Last Saturday, Milly Wallis-Hughes (Year 11) attended the 2022 Australia China Friendship Society of Western Australia (ACFSWA) Chinese Language Student Awards ceremony as one of the two student MCs for the event.
