Submit Abstracts for #ACMT2026 Abstract Submissions DUE by November 15, 2025 Showcase your research and advance the field of Medical Toxicology! The ACMT Research Committee welcomes all types of original research of interest to medical toxicologists and their patients. Our goal is to enrich the attendee experience by offering presentations that share the latest science and clinical practices from the front lines of medical toxicology. Abstracts will be peer-reviewed and acceptance will be based on content, available space, and overall program balance. All authors will be notified via email in mid-December.

ACMT Presents at SOFT 2025 ACMT ToxIC Research Director, Rachel Culbreth, PhD, and ACMT Executive Director Paul Wax, MD, FACMT joined forces with Alex Krutulski, PhD, Briana Stang, and Sarah Walton from the Center for Forensic Science, Research and Education (CFSRE) to deliver a 4 hour symposium at the Society of Forensic Toxicology (SOFT) annual meeting in Portland, Oregon on October 28, 2025. The title of their presentation was “Uniting Forensic Toxicology and Medical Toxicology to Implement the Drug Overdose Toxico-Surveillance (DOTS) Reporting Program.” The workshop highlighted the integration of clinical and laboratory data from DOTS including self-reported data of what patients thought they took that led to their overdose as well as the interpretation of quantitative drug levels. Tox in Ten - ACMT Highlights Episode 67:Psychedelics and Palliative Medicine In this episode Dr. Gillian Beauchamp sits down with Dr. Benjamin Hatten to discuss the potential role of psychedelics in palliative care medicine. Specifically data that shows improved outcomes in individuals who experience psychological stress related to a terminal or life limiting illness that is refractory to more traditional treatments such as antidepressants.
ToxIC Publication: Opioid Intentional Overdose The ACMT ToxIC team published a new article, “Level of care following suspected opioid or stimulant overdose with self-harm intent” in The American Journal of Emergency Medicine. This study, led by toxicologist Dr. Dan McCabe from Detroit Medical Center, found that patients who intentionally overdosed on opioids, such as fentanyl, are more likely to be admitted to the hospital rather than discharged from the emergency department, highlighting the need for standardized, equitable disposition strategies that consider both medical and psychiatric needs.
The ToxIC NOSE: Report #19 from ToxIC’s Rapid Response Program for Emerging Drugs of Abuse
A new brief from the ToxIC Novel Opioid and Stimulant Exposure (aka NOSE) Project highlights a major concern: Wasping. The NOSE Project enhances surveillance of emerging opioids and psychostimulants encountered by medical toxicologists in the field. These quarterly reports feature case highlights and trend analyses to inform ACMT members and the Opioid Response Network (ORN) of evolving threats in the drug supply. Leveling Up at Work! ACMT recently sent Sarah Corrodino, Logistics Manager, and Rebecca Weinstein, Director of Membership and Communications, to the HERe Conference, presented by HFMA — an inspiring event designed to support women working in healthcare, admin, and finance. Professional development is a core pillar of ACMT’s mission — not only for our members, but also for our staff.
