Welcome to this fortnight's edition of Connecting Our Community! Read on to find ways to commemorate ANZAC Day, celebrate local legends, support wellbeing at work and get involved in creative, cultural and community events. We’re also sharing training opportunities and funding options to help community groups and organisations continue their important work. Community storiesANZAC Day in Logan ANZAC Day services will be held across the City of Logan on Saturday April 25, 2026, giving the community an opportunity to come together and honour the service and sacrifice of Australian and New Zealand defence personnel. Dawn and morning services are planned at locations throughout Logan, with each service hosted by local RSLs and community groups.
More city 'Legends' with heart Across Logan, everyday people are quietly making a big difference. The Logan Legends initiative shines a spotlight on locals whose kindness, leadership and commitment strengthen our community. You can still nominate yourself or someone who inspires you. It’s easy - just fill out the submission form and tell us about your Logan Legend and the impact they’re making in our city. Recent nominations include Suzanne Dang, Kerry Anderson and Lynda Tilley - just a few examples of the inspiring people being celebrated. You can have your say by completing the online survey or visiting one of our pop‑up sessions over the coming weeks. We welcome input from everyone, particularly people living with disability, parents and carers, and those working in the disability sector.
Pasifika participants needed for health research The Genomics Research Centre at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is inviting Pasifika adults to take part in important health research that supports Pasifika communities. The study focuses on improving understanding, diagnosis and treatment of long‑term conditions such as diabetes, obesity and gout. Participants do not need to have a health condition to get involved. Building Foundation for Work – EmpowerHER Pathway IWA Australia is delivering Building Foundation for Work – EmpowerHER Pathway, a free employment skills program tailored for multicultural women. The 18‑week program supports participants to build confidence and job‑ready skills, covering topics such as communication skills, resume and cover letter support, job applications and networking. As part of developing practical work skills, participants may also have access to driving lessons, first aid training and other relevant short courses. Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing and Disability) IWA Australia is offering a fully funded Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33021) for people interested in starting a rewarding career in aged care and disability support. This nationally accredited course provides practical, job‑ready training with extra support from IWA Australia to help participants successfully complete the qualification and transition into employment. Training includes both classroom learning and additional wrap‑around supports to build confidence and job readiness. When: 22 April to 4 September 2026, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 am to 2:30 pm
Thrive at Work Summit - building healthier workplaces People working in community services care deeply about the work they do, but that care can come at a cost to their wellbeing. That’s why Q Shelter is proud to present the inaugural Thrive at Work Summit, a one‑day immersive event focused on building healthier, safer and more sustainable workplaces across Queensland’s community services sector. Community eventsVoices for Reconciliation Project - Sing on the Balun Join your community on Yugambeh Country to sing Midnight Oil’s Beds Are Burning and be part of a professionally produced music video for National Reconciliation Week 2026. Sing on the Balun welcomes non‑singers, shower‑singers and seasoned singers alike to come together through music, song and dance, creating a powerful and lasting statement of solidarity with First Nations people. World Laughter Day – Laughter Club special 😆🤣 Did you know World Laughter Day is celebrated in May each year and promotes health, joy and connection through laughter? Join Beenleigh Neighbourhood Centre as they celebrate with a special Laughter Club session. Enjoy a fun and welcoming evening of laughter yoga, breathing and playful movement. It’s a chance to relax, feel good and connect with others. No skills or equipment are needed. Just bring a willingness to laugh and have fun. When: Friday 1 May, 6:00 pm
Buddha Birth Day Festival Celebrate peace, happiness and culture at the Buddha Birth Day Festival over the Labour Day long weekend. Enjoy three days of cultural performances, including Dragon and Lion Dances, tea ceremonies and a spectacular Saturday night laser show. With vegetarian food and activities for all ages, it’s a welcoming and meaningful community celebration in the heart of Logan. When: Friday 1 May to Sunday 3 May 2026
Creative Kids Indoor Market Come along and support local kids at the upcoming Creative Kids Indoor Market. There will be more than 30 stalls run by young creators, filled with handmade gifts and treats. It’s a great place to find something special for Mother’s Day. Look out for Market Money too, where some lucky shoppers receive play money to spend at the stalls. It’s indoor, free and full of creativity and fun. When: Saturday 2 May, 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Logan Dementia Choir 3rd birthday celebration 🎉 “Music is medicine for the soul.” You're invited to join the Logan Dementia Choir members celebrate their 3rd birthday through singing and music. Morning tea and lucky door prize are included with entry. Special guests - Rowan Holzberger MP, Shannon Fentiman MP and members of the Gold Coast Inspire Dementia Choir. Funding opportunitiesLooking for funding to support your next project or idea? The opportunities below may be of interest. Applications are now open for the Aurizon Community Giving Fund offering grants of up to $20,000 to eligible charities in communities we work and live in. The Fund has helped over 700 charities with support for projects delivering benefits to local communities in the areas of health and wellbeing, community safety, environment and education. Applications close: 5:00 pm 24 April 2026 EOI applications are now open for the 100 Women Grants Program, supporting Australian charities delivering projects that empower women and girls. At 100 Women, the focus is on advancing safety, health, education and economic opportunity. In 2026, grants of up to $50,000 will be awarded to eligible organisations for project‑based initiatives that create measurable, lasting impact. Please review the guidelines and selection criteria for 2026. Applications close: 29 April 2026 Applications are now open for Transurban’s Relief Grants round, responding to current cost‑of‑living pressures across Australia. This special funding round supports grassroots organisations providing emergency relief, such as help with food access, housing and transport. Eligible not‑for‑profit organisations near Transurban roads in Greater Brisbane can apply for grants of up to $10,000 to support local communities facing increased hardship. Applications close: 8:00 pm 5 May 2026 Applications are now open for the Infrastructure for Multicultural Communities grants, supporting multicultural organisations to build, upgrade or improve community facilities. This funding helps create inclusive spaces that support connection, participation and cultural expression, including community hubs, meeting spaces and amenities. Grants are available for small to large infrastructure projects, with co‑contributions required depending on project size.
