This month you can join a workshop to learn how to repair your clothing, indulge in your love of gardening with others, improve your creative writing skills, attend an author talk, and much more! We are also getting ready for The Sydney Writers' Festival, which will take place in May. During this time, we will be welcoming authors Stan Grant, Jane Godwin, and Grace Chan to our libraries. Tickets to some sessions have almost booked out, so get in quick to grab your free tickets to these events!

All libraries will be closed for the Easter and ANZAC Day public holidays. However, you can still bring your items to one of the 24 hour returns chutes and use the online library to access eResources during this time.

All libraries will be closed for the following public holidays:

Easter: Friday 7 April, Saturday 8 April, Sunday 9 April, Monday 10 April

ANZAC Day: Tuesday 25 April

During the closure you can continue to access eResources, which include eMagazines, eBooks, and eAudiobooks.

We have some amazing authors that will be joining us for this annual celebration of stories, ideas, and literature!

Author Talk 

Melissa Monteiro will be coming to Ermington Library to chat about her recent book, The Girl from Mumbai. This book is an inspiring migrant story of people, purpose and passion, which focuses on Melissa's childhood and her survival after being lost in the Narmada valley. Don't miss out on this opportunity to meet Melissa and hear about her inspiring book!

Additional Story Time 

We are excited to announce that Dundas Library has added an extra story time session each week! Sessions will are now held on the following days:

Tuesdays from 10.30am to 11am
Age: 3 to 5 years

Thursdays from 10.30am to 11am
Age: birth to 2 years

Story time sessions are held at all libraries during school term only.

 

Living Stories Writing Workshop

Join a free Creative Writing Workshop, held in conjunction with Westwords, and develop your writing skills! Micheál Lovett, John Larkin, Catherine Pelosi, Adam Byatt will be holding separate workshops for different age groups, with participants mentored and prepared to submit their work to the West Words Living Stories 2023 writing competition.

 

Gardening Group 

Join our new gardening group at Constitution Hill Library to meet and connect with like-minded individuals! You will meet on the fourth Thursday of every month to share your passion, skills and knowledge about gardening. Bring some flowers and greenery from your garden for flower activities, or some seeds to share with the group. We will also provide envelopes, extra seeds, seedlings and some flowers at each session.

 

IELTS: Speaking and Writing Workshop

Join this workshop at Parramatta Library at PHIVE to learn strategies that may help with questions and activities in the IELTS Speaking and Writing test. You will also be provided with information about other free short IELTS courses and practice resources.

Bower: Clothing Repair Workshop

In this workshop at Parramatta Library at PHIVE, you will learn the basics of clothing repair and minor alteration, including how to mend holes, replace buttons and zippers, and patch clothing. This workshop is presented by experienced staff who can help you with your clothing repairs and alterations, so be sure to bring along some clothing! 

Saturday 29 April 10am to 11am  and 11am to 12pm

 

Crisis Payments

Are you facing financial difficulties due to a crisis such as a pandemic, natural disaster or job loss? Join our free information session on crisis payments where experts from The Financial Information Services will provide you with information about the financial assistance available to you.

Computer Help in Mandarin

We will be holding Computer Help in Mandarin, that will consist of 8 sessions, at Parramatta Library at PHIVE. The classes will be held on Thursdays from 4 May to 1 June and will teach participants about basic word processing and internet use. To register for this class, contact library staff on 9806 5159.

 

Ben's Book Club

Read or listen to How to Kill a Client by Joanna Jenkins in the Libby app. Join best selling Australian author Ben Hobson in conversation with Joanna Jenkins about her debut novel, described in goodreads as a fast-paced and wickedly funny thriller. Register for this free online book club event.

 

24 Hour Returns Chute

Did you know that all of our libraries are equipped with a 24 hour returns chute? This one pictured (for Parramatta Library at PHIVE) allows you to drop any of your borrowed items straight into the chute, even when the library is closed!

 

Term 2 Programs at WPCCL

Don't miss out on Term 2 classes at WPCCL! They have programs for Kids and Adults. Kick Boxing, Tai Chi, Xtreme Hip Hop, Zumba and Art club! Tickets will open for registration on Tuesday 11 April, at 9 am. Register and book online!

Youth Week

The 2023 Youth Week program is coming to Parramatta this April. Council has partnered with some great local groups, young people, and organisations to deliver an exciting range of programs and events across 10 days. The activities range from workshops and outings to activations and festivals, and are designed for young people to connect, participate, and celebrate!

 

ANZAC Day 

This ANZAC Day, join us in honouring all our Australian servicemen and women, past and present. Commemorate the day alongside your community at the annual Dawn Service hosted by our local City of Parramatta and Epping RSL sub-Branches.
