It’s been a huge year for all of us at the Mental Health Commission of NSW, and I am thankful for the support and collaboration of our partners. Lived Experience Framework launchThe Lived Experience Framework was launched by the Minister for Mental Health, the Hon Tanya Davies MP on Tuesday 4 December 2018.The Framework guides mental health and social services to work together with people with lived experience of mental health issues and caring, families and kinship groups. The Framework helps organisations embed lived experience participation, influence and leadership as everyday business. Community Advisory Council recruitmentWe are seeking expressions of interest for short-term Community Advisory Council appointments. Applications will close on Friday 4 January 2019. Kim's storyKim Vo lives with significant mental health issues and he spent much of his early 20's being unwell. Kim is now employed as a peer worker with South Western Sydney Local Health District’s Macarthur Assertive Treatment Team, and Kim goes into the community every day to meet and support people with mental health issues. Annual Report 2017-2018This is the Annual Report of the Mental Health Commission of New South Wales for 2017-2018. Grant opportunityThe Federal Government has opened submissions for the first roll out of grants under the Million Minds Mental Health Research Mission, aimed at developing new approaches to prevent, detect, diagnose, and treat mental illness. Eating disorder treatment reformsThe Federal Government has announced major changes to the Medicare Benefits Scheme that will improve the accessibility and affordability of eating disorder treatments for people in Australia. New CEO for National CommissionMs Christine Morgan has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer of the National Mental Health Commission and will begin in March 2019. Ms Morgan is the former CEO of The Butterfly Foundation.
