Even March Madness has a religious aura with team names like the Blue Devils and fans taking holidays to keep watch morning until night. These occasions include moments to celebrate and feast as well as time to reflect and fast. The range of these experiences between and within traditions provides an opportunity to learn about and support people observing a different practice. It also encourages conversations that may include fraught topics. So March’s article is about the good of difficult conversations. On the River was a moving and captivating event. In partnership with the Jeanne and Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre, we hosted Maria Dunn and Asani to tell the story of Fort McKay through the lens of former Chief Dorothy McDonald-Hyde. Rod Hyde and Dayle Hyde, Dorothy’s husband and daughter, joined us afterward for a conversation on stage. The night ended with a standing ovation and a lasting impression. Finally, we are extremely excited to spotlight Danielle Doel, the Centre’s new Program Coordinator. Danielle has hit the ground running and impressed everyone with her skills and quick wit. Thank you for your continued support. I hope this spring brings meaningful reflection, sincere conversations, and change for good. Sincerely, Joseph R.
