As we enter the final few months of 2025, we continue building momentum across the PARE Community. World Arthritis Day is around the corner, abstract submissions are being accepted for the EULAR 2026 Congress, and enrolment is open for the 4th PRP Online Course, among many other activities taking place, including our PARE Conference in November. Now more than ever, staying connected and working together is essential to achieving our shared goals of a brighter future for people with RMDs across Europe and around the world. I hope you enjoy this edition!
World Arthritis Day 2025: Achieve Your Dreams!
_____ This year’s World Arthritis Day highlights the power of dreams, recognising how people living with RMDs pursue personal goals with courage and resilience. As Giovanni Mascarino (Italy) reminds us in his dream: “If you don't see my pain, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist.” Let’s raise awareness and support every dream. You can explore inspiring stories through: - A webinar featuring voices from across all EULAR Communities.
- A toolkit to help you share your own dreams on social media using #RMDreams.
- A podcast highlighting young perspectives from the RMD community.
Your Chance to Share Successful Campaigns or Interesting Research Projects
____ Every year EULAR invites abstract submitters to present their work at the European Congress of Rheumatology. If your abstract is successful, you could be invited to present your work in London either as an oral presentation, a poster tour or a poster presentation.
Submission opened on 1 October 2025 and ends on 15 January 2026.
Registration for the 4th EULAR Online Course for Patient Research Partners
_____ The 4th EULAR Online Course for Patient Research Partners will start on 13 October 2025, and registration is open until 30 November 2025. Please help us spread the word and find new Patient Research Partners. The demand for patient involvement in research is increasing year on year. Are you wondering whether you can become a Patient Research Partner without a scientific background? The answer is yes! Join us to learn how you can contribute to research, advocate for patients’ needs and make a real difference in healthcare.

Counting the Cost of Arthritis: The Real Impact of RMDs
____ One of my highlights from the EULAR 2025 Congress was the project “Counting the Cost of Arthritis" report, created by Arthritis Ireland and presented by Gráinne O’Leary, Chief Executive. Everyone with an RMD recognises that living with chronic conditions is costly. This report provides real data on how overwhelming the financial and personal burden of arthritis is, as well as insights on the expenses endured by people with RMDs, affecting one in four people in Ireland, and one in five in Europe. This study, surveyed over 1,600 individuals living with RMDs, with an average disease duration of 12
years, revealed that: - RMDs impose an average annual personal cost of €3,538 per person as salient indicators outlined.
- 70% of respondents, currently working, indicated a financial pressure worsened by a loss of €3,111 in annual income due to their illness.
- 55% rated their health as “poor” or “fair” (compared to 2.5% in the general population).
- 97% experience pain and discomfort.
- 80% have difficulty with routine tasks.
These findings emphasise the urgent need for government and societal responses to alleviate the financial and emotional burden on those with RMDs.
