It's our chance to come together and raise awareness about the importance of safe driving. Every year, thousands of people lose their lives on Australian roads. That is why National Road Safety Week is so important. Here at Strathfield, we are doing our part to promote road safety. Our Road Safety and Traffic team work hard to ensure our roads and pedestrian crossings are well maintained. The improvements we have made to the Homebush West car park is just one example of our commitment to creating safer streets for our community. We are also extremely proud of the public bathroom facility that is now open near Homebush West car park. This has been a long-awaited service and we are incredibly happy it is now installed. Thank you to our council Works team for making this happen. I would also like to wish all our mums a Happy Mother's Day this Sunday as you spend quality time with your family. It's a special celebration to honour the contributions, efforts and influence mothers have in our society. THROWBACK THURSDAY Coronation Arch Unveiling, 5 June 1937 With great fanfare, Coronation Arch was unveiled on 5 June 1937 to honour the crowning of King Charles III’s grandfather, King George VI, just a few weeks earlier. Part of The Boulevarde was officially renamed Coronation Parade on the same day. This photo shows the formalities with Premier, (later Sir) Bertram Stevens and Governor of NSW, Lord Wakehurst in attendance, accompanied by their wives. In keeping with the recent coronation of King Charles III, the weather on opening day was inclement, a reminder of London noted by the Governor during his speech.[1] Several umbrellas can be seen in the crowd. And it was cold. Incredibly, the Weather Bureau even received a report of snow at Randwick that very morning![2] The official opening formalities of Coronation Arch, Enfield, 5 June 1937.
