President's updateAs I write this, I'm two weeks into my new role as President. Kelly Holt, President It's fair to say it's been a 'dynamic' start as we navigate an extended lockdown. However, I've been inspired by the commitment and dedication of the whole College community over the past few weeks. Our students have been incredible. I felt shivers in my spine at a recent Student Council meeting, hearing the ways our students are coming together to get themselves and each other across the line with their classes and Chiropractic Centre commitments. One of our students even mowed the lawns at the College to keep our campus looking great! Our staff and faculty have also been fantastic. They rapidly jumped into 'work from home' mode to deliver our programme online. With every Covid announcement that comes our way, our team comes together to work out how we can best support each other and support our students to complete all their course requirements and for our fourth-year students, to graduate. Many of us just want a little certainty in times like these, which very rarely seems to come our way right now. What I am certain of is we've got this. We're going to get through these challenges we're facing, possibly a little battered and bruised, but we will get through. We will soon graduate an exceptional group of chiropractors. We will welcome a full cohort of great students into the College in 2022. We'll also roll out our plans for a bright future over the coming years, focusing on growth, development, and innovation in three key areas - our people, technology, and finances. Like I said, together, we've got this. I look forward to being able to connect face-to-face in the coming months. For now, I'll sign off with a quick inspirational quote from Bill Murray - "Whatever you do, always give 100%. Unless you're donating blood." Cheers Online information eventA fun and informative online event for prospective students. Alert level restrictions has meant that our Open Day scheduled in October is unable to go ahead as planned. In place, an online information event is scheduled for Tuesday 19 October at 7pm. This online event will be a great opportunity to hear from staff, current students and graduates on everything future students need to know about chiropractic as a career, and what it’s like to study at our College. Attendees will learn more about the admissions process, and there will be time for questions and discussion. If you know someone that may be considering a career in chiropractic, extend our invitation to attend. For details and to register, click here. Faculty Position - Head of Department, Chiropractic CentreThe College is looking for an innovative, values-driven chiropractor to lead our Chiropractic Centre, and partner with the passionate and dedicated team to inspire, educate and empower future generations of chiropractors. If you have a vision aligned with helping a world of people express optimal potential, and you are a NZ registered chiropractor, with at least 5 years experience managing a successful, high volume chiropractic practice, we would love to hear from you! For the full job description and information on how to apply, click here. Closing date for applications is 22 October 2021. Lyceum 2021 updateWell, we certainly gave it our all. Unfortunately, extended lockdown and regional border restrictions mean that Lyceum 'The BIG Connect' will no longer be possible in 2021. We really want to thank everyone for their enthusiasm, support and stickability - our speakers, for their flexibility and adaptability - and a giant shout out to the College team for juggling the logistical challenges over recent time. And, although we didn't get our ‘BJ’s Brady Street’ moment, there are still many that want to share their stories, inspiration and BIG ideas, so be sure to keep an eye on your inbox for what’s to drop at the end of this month! Research accoladeThe Centre for Chiropractic Research (CCR) at the New Zealand College of Chiropractic have been awarded 1st prize in the research poster presentations for the Pacific Region at the recent World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC) conference. The poster that won this prize is titled ‘Chiropractic spinal manipulation increases the corticomotor excitability of a lower limb muscle in people with chronic stroke’. This study is one of the studies in our stroke series and provides important information about the potential impact of chiropractic care on the central nervous system in stroke survivors. These studies are increasing our understand of how chiropractic care may be beneficial in stroke rehabilitation. Congratulations to the CCR team and the authors Muhammad Samran Navid, Imran Khan Niazi, Dina Lelic, Imran Amjad, Nitika Kumari, Muhammad Shafique, Kelly Holt, Usman Rashid, Asbjørn Mohr Drewes and Heidi Haavik. We would like to thank our collaborators from Aalborg University in Denmark and Riphah International University in Islamabad, Pakistan. |
