Huge timber beams mark big progress

A major milestone has been reached, with 11 large timber beams now installed across the main pool hall of the new Oasis Aquatics and Wellbeing.

Each beam stretches about 35 metres, helping shape the structure of the future centre and adding both sustainability and serious wow factor.

For anyone travelling along Cleeland Street, it is clear that what was once a construction site is now starting to look like a real building, providing a glimpse of what our community can look forward to.

Why timber? The story behind one of Oasis’s most striking features

The beams across the main pool hall are made from Australian-grown mass timber, created by pressing together thick, solid layers of wood to form a strong and durable building material.

Mass timber can support large loads while offering important sustainability benefits. The timber has been sourced from certified Australian regrowth forests, meaning it comes from managed forests that are replanted and renewed for future use.

Beyond its practical benefits, the exposed timber will help bring warmth, texture and a stronger connection to nature inside the new Oasis Aquatics and Wellbeing.
