Dear Eagles,

November marks Native American Heritage month. This is an opportunity to take time to reflect, recognize, and educate yourself about the history, culture, strength, and resilience of Native Americans, and their continued influence as the first inhabitants of this land. Here are some resources and ways to get involved in  Boston.

This week also brings Career Week in the Arts and Entertainment, Love Your Body Week, and International Education Week, all of which have a number of programs and events planned.

This Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. is our Caring for Our Community Webinar sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs and BCPD. I encourage you to attend to learn more about important policies and procedures related to sexual assault, bias motivated incidents, alcohol use and student mental health. This webinar is open to the entire Boston College community.

Sincerely,

Dr. Shawna Cooper-Gibson
Vice President for Student Affairs

Academic Feature: International Education Week

image of a woman in a church with a typewriter

The theme for International Education Week this year: "Healing along the fault lines: Enduring Crisis; Maintaining Resilience; Strengthening Engagement; Ensuring Justice” recognizes that testing events over the past year illuminate an ongoing need for tolerance, optimism, and endurance through difficulties. From burdensome challenges —including the pandemic, disruptive climate events, and political friction—there is potential for progress through collaborative change-making and empathy across boundaries.

Boston College IEW 2021 is organized and celebrated by a diverse group of departments and offices at Boston College, under the direction of the Office of International Students and Scholars, the Office of Global Education, and the Office of the Vice Provost for Global Engagement.

Simphiwe Nzube Artist Talk

Simphiwe Ndzube is a painter and installation artist from South Africa. His artwork tells a story of power and conflict, of apartheid and its afterlives. Focusing on the people affected by abuses of power, he chronicles oppressed peoples' search for freedom, love, and meaning in an unequal world. During this event, he will be discussing some of his recent projects and the decisions that guide his artistry.
