It was an honour to welcome the Consul General of the Republic of Korea, Mr Taewoo Lee, at Council last week. Opportunities with Consulate Generals strengthen our cultural ties and foster meaningful connections between our communities. It also highlights the richness of our Korean community in Strathfield and enhances our diversity. Mr Lee was extremely impressed with our presentation and is looking forward to collaborating with Council in relation to the vibrant Strathfield Korean community. Councillors and I had a walk around Bridge Road and Station Street in Homebush. Council is installing new footpaths and revitalising nature strips to enhance the area. With the addition of extra rubbish bins, it will help maintain the area of unwanted rubbish and encourage residents to take pride in their street. This is a busy entry into Strathfield, and we are ensuring that the look and streetscape is indicative of the beautiful suburb we live in. 80 new Australians from 22 countries were conferred at our May Citizenship Ceremony last week. As Mayor, it is the most rewarding part of my duties to preside over an emotional and happy occasion as residents become citizens. It is a time of celebration and recognition of the diversity and multiculturalism that make Australia such a vibrant country. Congratulations to you all.
