Dear Residents,

Term 3 of the school year has begun, and I hope those of you with school children are settling back into your routine well. A new term means the return of regular programming at the Library, and our staff are excited to welcome back some of our littlest residents. Pre-school Storytime is back on Wednesdays at 10.30am, and Baby Bounce returns on Tuesdays at 10am, followed by Toddler Time on Tuesdays at 11am. All three of these wonderful sessions are free and designed to get you and your little ones reading, singing, moving and grooving! You can find out more on our website.

As they say, all good things take time and unfortunately recent wet and unfavorable weather has meant a slight delay in our Strathfield Park Revitalisation project. We’re eager to finish the works in August (weather permitting) and deliver this exciting upgrade to residents. Please make sure you are following us on Facebook and Instagram for updates on all our projects.

Council's annual Homelessness Food Appeal, in support of National Homelessness Week begins on Wednesday 29 July. If you can, please consider donating non-perishable food items. Your donation, big or small, will make a meaningful difference to people in need. Please visit the website for more information including collection points.

Finally, I am continuing my Mayoral Street Meetings during July and August. This Saturday I will be out and about in Homebush. Read on below for locations and times. I hope to see you there!

If you need to contact me or have any questions, please do so by emailing me cr.bcai@strathfield.nsw.gov.au or ring our office on 9748 9999.

Cr Benjamin Cai, Mayor of Strathfield

Redmyre (now Strathfield), 1884

These illustrations of Redmyre (now Strathfield) were published in the Australian Town and Country Journal in 1884. ‘It is one of the nicest of the suburbs, looking so fresh and healthy.’ Top left is Redmyre Road, leaving the railway station. Sketch 2 (centre right) shows Parnell Street. Bottom left is The Boulevarde with ‘several fine residences… tastefully laid out … planted with trees.’ Next is the new Congregational Church, corner Albert and Homebush Roads, now Sydney Korean Uniting Church.
