Philosopher Stefan Buijsman obtained his doctorate this year at the age of 20 at the University of Stockholm, making him the youngest PhD in Sweden. He was already taking lectures in Astronomy in Leiden when he was 12, and at 15 he started a degree programme in Information Technology. 'The first reaction was: there's a young kid wandering around here.'

During the Second World War, on 26 November 1940, Professor Cleveringa protested against the dismissal of two Jewish colleagues. Leiden University Fund together with the Cleveringa Committees all around the world, yearly organizes Cleveringa meetings to commemorate this famous speech.

This autumn Leiden University is launching eight new MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) that are available free to the general public. You can follow courses on the theory of evolution, mindfulness, political economy, international law, music, cultural heritage or archaeology.

Leiden University actively seeks to prepare students for the labour market and wants to help young alumni at the start of their careers. The Leiden University Mentor Network is one of the ways to provide help.
Through this online mentor network, young alumni and students can contact more experienced alumni easily to ask them for advice. Leiden alumni can make themselves available as a mentor in just a few steps.
