We doubled our intake for this ceremony so that all the new citizens can enjoy a Merry Christmas as an official Aussie. Make sure to drop past our Town Hall as the Christmas lights have just been installed on our beautiful heritage building on the corner of Homebush Rd and Redmyre Rd, Strathfield. Soon, Council will be asking for feedback on a plan to ensure the long term financial sustainability of Council. The proposal will be thorough and address funding shortfalls that the present Council have uncovered in regards to asset maintenance and renewal, whilst also maintaining current service levels. It will require some tough decisions to be made, but I am confident in our community's ability to come together to protect our future. Keep your eye on this eNews. The Homebush Council Chambers Bombing Shockingly, on this site in November 1937, a home-made bomb exploded, badly damaging the car of the Homebush Town Clerk, Hesketh Kerruish, during a council meeting! Built in 1912, Homebush Council Chambers stood on the corner of Parramatta Road and Park Road (formerly Wentworth Road). In November 1915 the residents and Mayor of Homebush, Mr Austin, welcomed the ‘Coo-ee’ march of weary war recruits from Gilgandra on this corner. The Council Chambers provided a venue for meetings and celebrations that included political speeches, wedding receptions, kitchen teas, 21st birthdays and bar mitzvahs.
