Junior School Notices

TERM 4 WEEK 9

Dear valued member of the PLC community,

    Message from the Principal

It is hard to believe that we are already at the end of the school year. Another year has flown by and as quickly as it started, the year is over. As we head into Senior School Speech Night this evening, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate every student for their achievements and their effort this year. We have seen incredible achievements and progress in many students in both the Junior School and Senior School – academically, in The Arts, and in Sport. I congratulate every student on their effort in 2022.

At the end of this year, we have some staff leaving and I wish those staff all the best in their new positions and career paths. I would always say that I am proof myself that leaving PLC doesn’t mean that you will never return, and you never know what the future might hold. We wish you all well.

A particular thanks to Mrs Beer for all that she has done this year. Her knowledge and expertise combined with her warmth and empathy ensured our students, staff and community were very well supported in 2022 and I am personally very grateful for her assistance and friendship.

As always, we have some excellent new staff joining us in Term 1, and we look forward to welcoming them into our community.

I wish all families all the best for a relaxing holiday break. It has been a very busy and another quite disrupted year and I hope that the holiday break brings with it an opportunity to spend time with family and friends. I look forward to seeing everyone back at school in 2023.

    End-of-Year Assembly

Congratulations to everyone involved the 2022 Junior School End-of-Year Assembly. It was a lovely night of celebration and entertainment. It was wonderful to see so many family members and friends joining us to enjoy performances by our talented and energetic students. A wonderful effort to those students who were awarded prizes for their hard work and application over the year.

    Swimming Carnival

What better way to finish the year than with the 2022 Inter-House Swimming Carnival! Once again, our students impressed us all with their positive attitude and ability to give their best for their House.

A big thank you to our parents who were once again generous with their time and support. To Ms Tench and Mr Matheson, well done for organising such a wonderful carnival. Congratulations to all the students for your participation in the carnival, your enthusiasm never fails to impress.

    Rev Nalin's Reflections

    Chaplain’s Christmas Reflections

I was delightfully surprised recently when I received a phone call from a friend I had not seen in over 40 years, now a resident in the US, on a visit to Perth to meet up with friends. Having lost contact a long time ago, it was a delightful and somewhat strange experience recounting the different directions our lives had taken us; reflecting on the significant milestones in our respective careers, and quite naturally discussing the blessings our children and grandchildren have brought to us.

Co-curricular Sport Registration & Training Schedule

If your child would like to register for a Term 1 2023 co-curricular sport, please click the button below.

    Register Here

The Junior School Co-curricular Sport Training Schedule can be found here.

For a sport to proceed, a minimum of 10 students will be required.

In Term 1, we are running extended pre-season skills/training for Netball and Hockey in preparation for Term 2 matches. With a busy co-curricular schedule, we have had to put these sessions on the same day. In Term 2, Minkey and Netball training will be on separate days for those students wanting to do both.

Students interested in Term 2 & 3 Netta/Netball competitions held at Matthews Netball Centre or Yr1-4 Minkey, will receive a separate letter in mid-February with information on how to register.

Please contact Head of Sport, Mr Sam Maxwell, if you require further information regarding co-curricular sport at PLC.

    Sport Strategy & Review

Over the course of this year, we have conducted a thorough review of Sport at PLC, with the development of a new Strategic Plan for Sport to be implemented from 2023. Focussing on the culture, communication, quality of coaching, recognition of sport, opportunities, and experiences for our students, among other areas, the details of the Plan will be shared with the community in the new year.

    Student Achievements

    Bronze for Musical Imogen

Well done to Imogen Manfield (Year 6) who has achieved a bronze award from the Australian Music Examination Board.

This AMEB Award programme is a culmination of sustained and significant effort by Imogen and recognises her engagement in the Music programme at PLC.

    Isla Wins Writing Award

Congratulations to Isla Barker (Year 6) who won the KSP (Katherine Susannah Prichard) Foundation, National Young Writers Encouragement Award for under 14s.

Please see the judge's comment below.

“Isla Barker took the classic ‘what if’ premise of storytelling—what if Mona Lisa was created from a real person falling into the painting—but then slapped another layer of acrylic onto the canvas by making that person a jealous younger sister. The voice was excellent, and the joke and humour were not piled on too thickly, so the reader ended up seeing Leonardo da Vinci’s work and persona in a different light. Isla Baker had deft artistry at play on the page herself and I look forward to seeing her writing career develop further.”
