AUGUST 2024 NEWSLETTER

Our 2022 in review

Hi there,

HOT COLD HOT COLD, a bit like this year and the workflow for a lot of people. But now we seem to be heating up. YAY

This month we celebrate some wonderful creatives in the photography and styling space who have been creating some cool work.

Or Hot work if you like!

I introduce you to the best calendar of 2025, yes The Brownbill Effect has a calendar that has been sponsored by Bambra Press and Marvel Book Binders as a promo for my latest book 'Leap into your Creative Life.'

PanPan, my current design student from Swinburne, adapted Charlotte Tiong's illustrations from the book to create this beautiful calendar.

It's gorgeous, colourful and FREE.  A gift from me to you!

So I'll be dropping off many, but please put up your hand and come to the office in Hawthorn anytime to collect some for yourselves.

It's Art for the wall.

Happy Days

Enjoy,
Sal and Pan Pan

LOUIS PETROCELLI | PHOTOGRAPHER

Louis Petrocelli talks about his career as a commercial photographer...

"Commercial photography allows me to live the lifestyle i want to lead but also the freedom to delve into art photography. I have always believed that one helps the other to survive.  As I have already stated, experimenting, reinventing an exploring are all necessary to keep a photographer current, especially when we are in a field that is in constant stage of flux. GREG ELMS | PHOTOGRAPHER

Working with complete Strangers

"How do you convince a complete stranger to let you take their photo? And, with only a few words, give them the confidence to step out of their insecurities – have your camera ready –and hopefully take a great shot.

For me it's slightly different every time – a compliment is a good start. The challenge of making it work is actually a huge part of what keeps me going as a photographer – whether by myself, or with a cast of professional collaborators. Whether I'm photographing a model or an actor...or a footy fan. In some respects, every image I take, even a still life, is a performance for the camera, a commitment to create something that steps beyond the everyday, even if only for a fleeting moment.

The people in these images are all complete strangers – plucked from the 15,000 strong crowd at this year's Reclink Community Cup football match, held a few weeks ago, where, for the past three years I've volunteered as an official photographer. It's a mix of music, mayhem, footy and fun. A day to let down your guard, unless you're on-field, and step outside the norm. For me it's a chance to revel in the community spirit, and coax a few people to give me, hopefully, some great shots.

Check out my website for more images."

SALLY'S STORY

A NETWORK WITH THE LOT

You know how important it is to develop a network – and how hard that can be. My Creative Directory has been the go to network for creatives and employers looking for creatives for over 10 years. In that time it’s grown into one of the most effective creative networks in Australia.

Of course there’s a reason for that.

It works.

Creatives become part of a like minded community, form collaborations, find jobs and build confidence.

Naturally I help all I can to make this happen. Everyone on the Creative Directory gets promoted through my newsletter, on my socials and every time I open my mouth. Having me in your corner helps more than you could know.

Give yourself every chance and join the Creative Directory. Right now would be a good time.

What Daniella had to say about Sally helping her find the full-time role she is in now...

Thanks to Sally, I secured a fantastic role in my chosen field, which I genuinely enjoy.
