LATE ARRIVALS

Late arrival to school results in interruptions to the learning process. Parents are encouraged to have students to school on time. Parents who come to drop their child to school after 8:30am start must come in to the office to sign-in.  All children need to be signed in using our new electronic system, which will change the class register to show that they are on school premises.

*Excessive tardiness to school may be referred to the Local Authority for action and possible court referral.

NOTICES

ATTENDANCE AND PUNCTUALITY

If your child is absent please contact the school the same day with the reason for the absence.

.          For absences between 1 – 3 days: a daily telephone call or an e-mail to the school: attendance@school21.org.uk / htayfur@school21.org.uk  from parents/carers by 8:30am stating student’s name, class, year and reason for your child's absence  (please only use your child's initials in the subject heading of any email).

·         For absences between 4 – 5 days we will require letter or proof of medication with an explanation on or before the child’s return to school.

·         For absences of 5 days and over parents must provide written medical evidence i.e a prescription or appointment letter.

We will inform you if your child's absence or lateness causes concern and will work with you to find a way of improving your child's attendance. If you would like to discuss your child’s attendance / punctuality or have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the attendance officer at the school via the above email address.

*Punctuality
It is important that your child attends school on time- Primary, Middle and Secondary (8:30am). A pupil arriving late will disrupt not only his/her learning but also that of others.

In responding to lateness, we will take into account individual circumstances in each case. It may be that late arrival stems from unavoidable circumstances, however, we will seek an early meeting with parents where lateness is an issue and circumstances  will be discussed.

*Good Habits -Regular attendance including punctuality helps your child become reliable and organised. Good attendance and punctuality is vital if all pupils are to take full advantage of the educational opportunities available to them.

*Meetings- If parents would like to arrange a meeting with a member of staff, please email them directly to arrange this.  The school office does not have access to staff diaries, but can provide parents with the email address of the member of staff they would like to get in touch with.  We cannot arrange spontaneous meetings with staff as they follow a daily timetable, have scheduled meetings to attend and may be required to cover lessons.

*Water bottles in school - Please make sure that your child has a water (filled only with water) bottle in school.

*Walking Home Alone - If your child walks home alone, please make sure that they use a safe, well lit and busy route. They should not be walking through the park alone and if possible, walk home with a friend. Below is a link to the NSPCC website with more information.

https://www.nspcc.org.uk/services-and-resources/research-and-resources/2015/out-alone/

*School Uniform - Children must always come into school with correct full school uniform which includes tie and black shoes (black trainers are not acceptable). If your child comes to school in the incorrect uniform parents will be notified.  Please ensure that your child has the correct School21 PE Kit on PE days.

*Safe Parking - We are disappointed to say that despite several notices, some of our parents are still not following the "no parking" yellow zig-zag signs outside the school premises.  We are now in the process of working with the local authority to ensure that parking laws are adhered to.  Parking illegally causes a health and safety hazard for our parents and especially our children.  Please keep them safe!

*Scooters - Children (and parents/carers) MUST NOT ride scooters on school premises.  This poses a threat for themselves and for parents and children in the area.

*Equipment - Parents please ensure your child comes into school with all the equipment and food they will need for the day.  The front office will not be responsible for taking things to classroom as this is disruptive to children's learning.

*Celebration -
Please ensure birthday/celebration cakes that you wish to share with your child's class are given to your child's class teacher in the morning when you drop them off and is sliced, completely nut free (no traces) and suitable for vegetarians.  We will not accept any cakes/treats that do not meet this criteria.  Please consider providing plates/tissues (cup-cakes are always the neatest to share!).  Thank you for your co-operation with regards to all notices.

Year 7 Ignite Speeches

Here are our some of our wonderful Middle School students. Year 5 showing theor immersive theatre production of the History of Medicine.

Year 7 singing their Ignite Speeches in front of an audience at the Oracy Festival. It was a very proud day.

Great Oracy Exhibition

We did it! 75 talented, eloquent, hilariously knowledgeable Year 5 actors, 90 minutes of show, 10 rolling performances, 15 original scripts, 12 Wednesdays of history, drama and making, hundreds of costume and prop pieces...
Year 5’s project ‘Has surgery always been at the cutting edge?’ culminated yesterday in an extraordinary living timeline in which all the children performed brilliantly. Audiences met some weird and wonderful characters through history from Crog the Caveman, to Hippocrates, Plague doctors, Pasteur, King Charles and surgeons of the future. It was a fantastically challenging mash up of historical knowledge, drama, Oracy and making and art which the children really rose to.
A huge thank you to the dedicated project teachers who supported the group over the term: Ms Hartzell, Mr Ward, Ms Christie, Mr Fugde, Ms Sedler and Ms Kyrk, and also to everyone who was able to come along as an audience member to support us.
An equally huge well done to all of the Year 5 children who worked hard on this project and made it such a success! Sharman, Sharman!

Year 5

SRE is lifelong learning about physical, moral and emotional development.  We are holding a parent workshop for parents of children in year 2- year 5, where you can view resources, offer input and ask any questions you may have.

The Art of Conversation

Year 7 have been learning the art of conversation in order to find out what stories our community can tell. Over the course of the term, they have explored what happens when two people converse, how to introduce topics and ask different types of questions, and how to listen closely to others. They have held conversations with each other, with relatives and with members of the community of Stratford in order to find out about people and their life stories. These stories were retold at our Great Oracy Exhibition yesterday. Well done Year 7 - you have developed professionalism, expertise, and most importantly, humanity, due to your ability to connect with others. Great work!

It is with great sadness that we have to announce that Miss Naru will be leaving School 21 after the Easter holidays. She has decided to take a job overseas to widen her experiences. We would like to say a huge thank you to Miss Naru for all the hard work she has done during her time here at School 21, supporting both students and families to ensure everyone is getting the support they need and wish her the best of luck with all of her future endeavours.

It is with a heavy heart that I present to you my very last School 21 Primary Newsletter as I will be leaving School 21 at the end of this term.  I consider it a great personal achievement of mine to have been a part of such a progressive organisation, as well as being a reliable point of contact for our most important stakeholders- School 21 students and parents.  I am also sad to leave behind a front of house team that has always been determined to consistently meet the needs of our parents, students and staff.  Thank you all for making my time here so enjoyable and I wish you and all our students the very best for the future!

Children with Medical Needs:

If your child needs to be administered with medication during the school day, please:

1.  Make sure the medication is prescribed by a doctor for the child taking the medication, that the medication is in the original packaging and the expiry date is clearly shown.

2. Take the medication to reception where you will be asked to fill out a medication form.

If you have recently been issued with a medical care plan for your child please read the plan, amend if necessary, sign and return to reception.

If your child is on crutches and wants to attend school, they must first have a risk assessment before being allowed to go to class. Please email mbarthram@school21.org.uk to arrange for a risk assessment to take place.
