Gold Coast Weekly | Issue #18 | Corporate Plan

How do you travel around the Gold Coast? Find sustainable and active methods of getting around the city on our website.

Issue #18: Do you know a young and emerging artist? In this week's edition, we're inviting multidisciplinary artists to apply to our grants funding, bringing you details on our Active Travel art competition, and encouraging you to recycle properly.

My first arts grant

'My first arts grant' applications now open

If you’re a young artist, with an ABN, looking for arts funding, you can now apply for up to $5,000 from the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) – Activate Small Grants round.

We have allocated funding specifically to support applicants 25 years old and under. The funding can be used to develop or realise your artistic projects or help progress your arts career. Artists can use the funding to:

  • pay yourself and other creatives to work on an arts project
  • cover costs associated with presenting, recording, publishing, or sharing your work
  • document your work or update your website
  • cover residency costs
  • pay a mentor
  • attend a conference
  • other arts activities!

You can apply anytime. This program is open year-round, until funding pool is gone. Head to our website for more details.

Celebrate active travel

Calling all students to get creative with Active Travel

Our ART-AST competition is back! We're inviting all Gold Coast primary school students to take part by submitting their artwork celebrating our active school travel themes of:

  • walking
  • wheeling
  • catching public transport
  • carpooling
  • road safety.

There are prizes up for grabs for the Junior (Prep to Year 3) and Senior (Year 4-6) category winners and their schools.

Finalists will have their artworks featured in the 2023 ART-AST calendar available to all Gold Coast schools.

Head to our website to check out the range of prizes on offer for winners and download an entry form. Get in quick, entries are now open and close Tuesday 19 July.

Minimise your waste to landfill

Minimise your waste to landfill

A lot of items that go into your general waste bin, which goes to landfill, can be recycled. When in doubt check the Australasian Recycling Label, which is displayed on most supermarket products.

You can also ensure you have flattened any cardboard or upsize your recycling bin so you have enough room for all your recyclables. To help increase the separation and recovery of recyclable materials, and reduce waste going to landfill, you can:

  • upsize to a larger 360-litre yellow lid recycling bin
  • downsize to a smaller 140-litre general waste bin
  • order an optional green organics bin or order an additional green organics bin
  • change your bin set to the Sustainability Bundle
  • use the on demand bulky waste kerbside collection. Eligible residents are entitled to one skip per calendar year.
