OTHER NEWSConnecting with PIEF National Summit - The Future of WorkOn 29 and 30 August, WorkCover WA staff attended the PIEF National Summit in Adelaide. The Summit provided an opportunity for industry professionals to showcase exceptional outcomes and best practices in the personal injury field. WorkCover WA CEO Chris White participated in a panel discussion about the critical elements of case management, sharing insights from WA. WorkCover WA was also a proud gold sponsor of the event, sponsoring keynote speaker and innovator Dr Jordan Nguyen, who spoke on the power of AI and technology to transform lives. We believe It Pays to Care Influencing Employers SymposiumIt Pays to Care (IPTC) is a call for change and action to improve health and recovery outcomes and reduce barriers to care for people experiencing work injuries. On 31 August, WorkCover WA General Manager Regulatory Services Rebecca Harris attended the IPTC Influencing Employers Symposium in Adelaide. The symposium explored how insurers and regulators can influence employers as the way workplaces approach injuries is a key driver of case outcomes. Attendees discussed what barriers exist, and how to overcome these barriers and influence employers to create lasting change.
Working with Medical Specialists Peer Review SessionApproved Medical Specialists play an important role in the WA workers’ compensation scheme by assessing an injured worker’s degree of whole person impairment caused by workplace injuries. Facilitated by independent occupational physician Dr Steven Overmeire, attendees worked through case studies and discussed assessment methodologies, noting areas of potential error and ambiguity. We look forward to hosting more opportunities for development and connection between industry specialists throughout the coming year. Celebrating diversity Wear it Purple DayOn August 25, WorkCover WA staff, led by members of our Mandi Mart (youth action group), wore purple in support of LGBTQIA+ youth. Wear it Purple Day is an international initiative promoting support and acceptance of LGBTQIA+ youth, and start important conversations that challenge preconceptions about sexuality, sex and gender.
