Why we are here: a longtime Burien resident has found his new home at Bloomside

When DESC opened our new Bloomside permanent supportive housing apartments in May, about one-third of the homes were reserved for Burien residents.

Dean is one of those people who now calls Bloomside home.

“I hope that no one ever has to experience what it is like to walk up to a crosswalk and not know which button to push. Sometimes I would just break down and cry because I didn’t have a place to go, and I was so tired. Now, I have a place to go, and with purpose.”

Read Dean's story on our website.

Below, watch DESC staffer Jace prepare an apartment for new tenants like Dean

In the video below, DESC Donor Steward Jace Reyes sets up an apartment at Bloomside before it opens. Dean and other tenants moved into apartments furnished with the basic necessities to help them settle into their new homes.

Introducing 1737 Belmont, our newest project

DESC is planning to build an affordable apartment building with onsite support services for single adults experiencing homelessness at 1727, 1733 and 1737 Belmont Ave., Seattle. The new housing will feature 120 studio units for single adults who are living with disabilities and experiencing long-term homelessness.

We held an informational open house at the Capitol Hill Library on Sept. 25 where the public could learn about our plans and ask questions. Read more about the Belmont housing on our website.
