Gold Coast Weekly | Issue #1 | Grants

We hope you had a safe and enjoyable Christmas and New Year.

Issue #1: Welcome to a new year with new possibilies! For the first edition of 2022, we're bringing you details on NAIDOC Week and Seniors Month grants, reminding you to park safely around the city and updates on our mowing schedule.

NAIDOC Week and Seniors Month

NAIDOC Week and Seniors Month grant applications open now

Calling all community groups - applications are now open for 2022 NAIDOC Week and Seniors Month grants, with funding ranging from $500 to $5,000.

Our NAIDOC Week Grants Program supports community organisations to deliver projects that celebrate NAIDOC Week (3 to 10 July), which recognises the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

Seniors Month is held in October, and our Seniors Month Grant Program supports community organisations to deliver projects and events that encourage community connections, participation and celebrate Gold Coast seniors.

For more information and application forms, visit our website:

Or contact us at communitygrants@goldcoast.qld.gov.au. Applications close at 5pm 31 January 2022.

LPR Park Safe

Play it safe and park safe

Come and play on the Gold Coast, but make sure you play it safe by parking safe. We're reminding you to park correctly and comply with the road rules.

Our new Park Safe vehicles are out on the roads using the latest license plate recognition technology, to monitor bus zones, loading zones, boat ramps and more.

Remember to keep pedestrians and other road users safe by:

  • not parking in loading zones, bus zones or across yellow ‘no stopping’ lines
  • not parking or stopping within 20 metres before pedestrian crossings, or 10 metres after.

Together, we can keep the Gold Coast safe.
Learn more about parking on our website.

Maintaining our grassy areas

Maintaining our grassy areas

We love that fresh cut grass feeling as much as the next person and our City staff and contractors work hard year round to keep our facilities and parks safe, accessible, functional and presentable.

Over summer months, our maintenance crews are mowing the equivalent of 3,500 football fields every two weeks when weather permits. However, our humid La Niña weather over summer can often result in excessive rain, leading to:

  • grass growing faster than usual
  • rapid grass seed head growth days after mowing
  • open spaces too wet to mow for safety reasons.

Learn more about our mowing program on our website.
