Anne’s Story: Healing Others Even After She’s Gone

When Anne was diagnosed with lymphoma, it was a journey she never expected—one filled with uncertainty and challenges. But through the hardest days, she found comfort in the care of Lymphoma Australia's dedicated Lymphoma Care Nurses.

One of the first things Anne received was a Patient Treatment Support Kit, filled with practical resources and thoughtful items to help her through treatment. It made her feel cared for, reminding her that she wasn’t alone. Alongside the compassionate support of her nurses, the kit brought reassurance and hope when she needed it most.

Grateful for the kindness and care she received; Anne wanted to give back. Before she passed away, she made the generous decision to leave a gift in her will, ensuring that others facing lymphoma would receive the same support she had.

Today, Anne’s legacy lives on. Her gift helps fund the vital work of Lymphoma Care Nurses and ensures that more patients receive the care and support that made such a difference in her life.

Anne’s generosity continues to change lives—ensuring no one faces lymphoma alone.

You too can leave a lasting legacy. Learn more about Gifts in Wills and write your free will today.

Managing Nausea

Nausea, or feeling sick, is a common side effect that many people get when having treatment for lymphoma.

Causes:

Chemotherapies, surgery, radiotherapy and some immunotherapies can cause nausea which can lead to vomiting if not managed well. This usually happens in the first few hours to days after treatment.

It is triggered from a part of your brain called the vomiting centre. Several signals can trigger nausea, but the main cause from chemotherapy occurs in an area of your brain called the chemo-receptor trigger zone, which reacts to chemicals or medicines in your blood.

Many patients who experience nausea and vomiting after chemotherapy can also develop anticipatory nausea. This means you may feel nauseous before coming into the hospital for treatment, or once you get there even before treatment begins.

Management Strategies:

Prevention of nausea is much better than treatment. Some simple management strategies to do this include:

  • eating light or bland foods in small amounts throughout the day

  • try foods or drinks with ginger in them

  • drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated (at least 2-3L a day)

  • suck on hard lollies, ice blocks or ice during chemotherapy

  • keep cool and relaxed before and after treatment

  • identify and avoid triggers that make you feel sick

  • make sure you take anti-nausea medication as prescribed

Talk to your health care team if your medication is not working or if your nausea is not controlled – there are other options that may work better for you. For more information, visit Nausea and vomiting - Lymphoma Australia
