LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION (BLENDED) CLASSApril 1-5*, 1-5pm, $250** (Free w/ Work Commitment) Dear Future Team Member, Looking for a fun job with flexible hours in a great atmosphere? The Mount Rainier Pool is offering a Lifeguarding Certification Course this Spring Break. The class is blended which means it is a mix of online and in-person learning. Anyone who is committed to work at Mount Rainier Pool can have their class fees covered ($250 without). However, spots in the class will be prioritized for those who are willing to work at the Mount Rainier Pool. Please see the message below for other prerequisites or email us for any questions. All class members who complete the course will receive an American Red Cross Professional Lifeguard Certification that can be applied at most pools across the country. SPECIAL NOTE: This class is a blended class that also has online requirements. Ask staff for more information. The Mount Rainier Pool covers the costs of certification for participants that are willing to work at the Mount Rainier Pool. All people taking this class must commit to working at least six months at the Mount Rainier Pool over the next year. *April 1-5 is Spring Break for the Highline and Federal Way School Districts. **The American Red Cross has increased the cost of this program. The district will be anallyzing costs as part of its annual cost review. Other organizations charge up to $400 for this certification. The American Red Cross Lifeguarding course teaches candidates the knowledge and skills needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies. The course content and activities prepare candidates to recognize and respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries. Certification includes Lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid and AED for the professional rescuer. COURSE PREREQUISITES To enroll in the Lifeguarding course, you must be at least 15 years of age before the last scheduled class session. Please bring proof of age on the first day (driver's license, state identification, birth certificate, or passport). To participate in the Lifeguarding course, you must be able to demonstrate the following skills:
Please bring a swimsuit and towel for the skills evaluation on the first day and for every class. Note-if you cannot complete these tasks, please speak with Aquatics Coordinator, Emmitt Sevores, about potential training time in the pool to work on these skills to take future trainings. REQUIRED MATERIALS All course materials are included. COURSE COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS 100% attendance (no exceptions), 80% on the written exam, and successfully complete required skills and final skills scenarios. COURSE CERTIFICATION Upon successful completion of the Lifeguarding course, each participant will receive the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR/AED for the Lifeguard certification. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS This class requires a minimum registration of five (5). If class below five (5), the District reserves the right to cancel the class to save on resources.
