Dear Eagles,

As many of you prepare for your spring break endeavors, I welcome you to attend and enjoy the events our campus community is hosting this week. I would first like to encourage you to submit our nominations for the Ever to Excel Awards by Wednesday, March 1. You can review the awards at bc.edu/awards or read more about Ever to Excel Awards below.

As we look towards the next Academic Year, there are several ways to be active members of the BC community. BC's Global Engagement invites undergraduate students to apply to be an International Assistant. International Assistants support and serve as a resource to International Students at BC. Additionally, the Pine Manor Institute for Student Success welcomes undergraduate students to apply to be Summer Success Coaches and Academic Year Success Coaches.

Lastly, CURA Facilitators applications remain open. Through this paid leadership opportunity, facilitators will participate in several CURA sessions that will foster a community of inclusion with First Year Students.

Each year, the Division of Student Affairs and Boston College present 17 awards to members of the BC community who have made significant contributions to campus life. The Ever to Excel awards recognize students, student groups, faculty, and staff for excellence in leadership and service at the University. The program matches each incoming undergraduate international student with an upper class student, an International Assistant. Dorceta Taylor: Untold Stories of the Conservation Movement: Race, Class, and Environmental Protection

Dorceta E. Taylor is a professor of environmental justice and the Senior Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Yale School of the Environment. Dr. Taylor directs YSE's Environmental Fellows Program and the Yale Conservation Scholars Early Leadership Initiative. She is a leading expert in the field of institutional diversity and workforce dynamics in the environmental sector. In 2014 Taylor authored a landmark national report, The State of Diversity in Environmental Institutions: Mainstream NGOs, Foundations, and Government Agencies. along with several influential books 

 

Imani Perry: South to America: A Journey Below the Mason-Dixon to Understand the Soul of a Nation

 

Born just nine years after the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama, Imani Perry was instilled from an early age with a strong instinct for justice and progressive change. The rich interplay between history, race, law, and culture continues to inform her work as a critically acclaimed author and the Hughes-Rogers Professor of African American Studies at Princeton University.
