QLDC Winter Road Report - 24 September 2023

Ata mārie  good morning everybody,

Sunday is off to a cloudy start with some isolated showers forecast, the good news is this is set to clear in the afternoon with fine breaks increasing. ⛅

Crews have done a stellar job working on the flooding issues created by heavy rains on Thursday with the majority of roads across the region now open. However, there may be some roading issues that continue to require further works. Please drive with care and  observe any warning signs left in place.

Here's a summary of conditions to be aware of today:

  • Crown Range Road & Cardrona Valley:  Crown Range Road surface is damp with road temperatures at the summit at 2.3 degrees. Cardrona Valley Road is dry.
  • Wānaka area: Warm dry roads. Mount Aspiring Road open. SH6 Makarora remains closed.
  • Queenstown and Whakatipu Basin: All roads and streets in the centre of Queenstown have reopened. Glenorchy-Queenstown Road from 1 Mile roundabout to Sunshine Bay is open with the speed restriction in place of 50k's per hr. Dry roads with temperatures at 5-7 degrees.
  • Glenorchy: Dry roads with positive temperatures. Greenstone Station Road and Paradise Road are open.
  • Out of district: SH6 Cromwell to Wānaka still has some surface flooding which is under temporary signage.

It’s time to say haere rā goodbye from me, Hitch will be taking you through next week’s road reports. I'll leave you with more of a warming winter joke.

What do you call a snowman that plays piano in the sun?

Stay cosy and have a great Sunday,
Tessa 😉

DISCLAIMER:  Road conditions during winter can change at any time. Our advice is to always carry chains, slow down and drive to the conditions. We will always do our best to give you the most up-to-date conditions for key commuter roads, but we can't drive every road in the district before 7.00am.  Remember, if it's snowing, this slows us down too and these reports should never replace common sense.
