Hudson River Field Station

Our Hudson River Stewards Interactive Map Is Waiting for You!

We are excited to share our newly created StoryMap of Hudson River Stewards, developed through a partnership between our Field Station team and the Barnard College Sustainable Development Workshop under the instruction of Dr. Logan Brenner.

This excellent resource includes a mapped exploration of a set of Hudson River stewards and brief stories around them as well as curriculum pieces, and will grow and evolve over time. This virtual map supports a physical installation that is currently under development as part of our  NYS DEC grant “Developing your voice in our Hudson River Story.” We look forward to unveiling that piece early in 2023.

We also wanted to share some exciting news! Charity Dikson, one of our Rockland County Service Corps mentors for our Next Generation of Hudson River Educators program for summer ‘21 and ‘22, is the winner of the National Corps Network’s 2023 Corps Member of the Year award!

Charity is a Village of Haverstraw resident and an exceptional mentor, teacher, and communicator. Her Dominican background and strong ties to the Haverstraw community made her a wonderful partner to bring our science to the Village and help to build a strong collaboration there.

Charity also spent countless Saturdays in Piermont as part of our Science Saturday program, providing hands-on science to the public. Congratulations, Charity!

Columbia Climate Corps climate- and sustainability-focused traveling programs combine intentional travel with in-depth educational opportunities. Students gain critical skills and knowledge through excursions and place-based learning, discover and develop new and existing passions around climate change, and build lasting friendships. Our summer 2023 travel programs include:

  • Chile and Peru: Climate Impacts and Risk, July 22-August 11, 2023

  • Iceland: Carbon Capture Technology, July 20-August 1, 2023

  • Alaska: Climate Communication and Exploration, July 17-July 28, 2023
