As 2021 comes to an end, we would like to thank you all for your continued engagement and enthusiasm as we work together to develop a collaborative and sustainable decommissioning industry for Australia. The domestic decommissioning workload has become increasingly present on the political agenda and in the industrial landscape this year, with growing activity and more clarity achieved on the work ahead. The need to grow local capability and networks to support decommissioning in Australia saw the establishment of CODA in March of this year. Throughout 2021 CODA engaged with stakeholders across the entire decommissioning landscape - meeting with operators, the service and supply sector, researchers, regulators, international organisations, and government. These engagements are building connections and relationships internally and externally, and highlight the need for everyone to work together to deliver our future decommissioning workload successfully and safely. These discussions also confirm that having CODA as an independent bridge between all the different parties is helping to open new doors and support better outcomes for all involved. Recent highlights have included engagement with our inaugural supervisory committee to inform the strategic direction of CODA, the hosting of an operator stakeholder workshop to plan part of the work program for the year ahead, numerous domestic and international conference speaking engagements and, most recently, our registration as a standalone organisation. While we are maintaining our deep connection to NERA, this independence marks a significant milestone that will help us to secure our long-term future. With 2022 set to be another busy year, the team here at CODA would like to wish you all a safe and happy new year. To find out more about CODA click here. New research, funded by the National Decommissioning Research Initiative (NDRI), has been published to inform future decommissioning decision-making by providing a better understanding of the impact of naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) in the marine ecosystem and how this affects decommissioning options. |
